Week Three Takeaways: The Essential In The AFC South

@DanT_NFL is here to cover all the essential takeaways from NFL Week Three. Read on about the AFC South.

Week Three is in the books for the AFC South! We must focus on the top takeaways now that we have film and statistics to study. No longer can we rest on our offseason takes of who will succeed and who will fail. We now have an entire two weeks of NFL football to study. We can lead our team to a fantasy football title by focusing on weekly top takeaways! The fantasy season will move quickly, and in a dynasty, it is essential to acquire players before they break out or unload players before they falter.

Treylon Burks’s Struggles Continue

The 2021 rookie class of wide receivers is looking to be something special — all except for one. Treylon Burks has been a concern since the training camp first took place in the spring, and it seems like all of our worries have been justified. Through three weeks, he has just eight receptions for 115 yards. To put that into context, Drake London, Chris Olave, and Garrett Wilson have put up close to that stat line in single games this season. This Tennessee offense has struggled, which could be an uphill battle for Burks for the remainder of his rookie campaign.

There is a silver lining for Burks. He is testing positive in specific metrics among his fellow rookie wide receivers. His yards per route run and yards per reception rank in the top five for the 2022 rookie class. This is a good sign of efficiency. If the Titans’ offense can string together some production, we might see the Burks breakout dynasty managers who drafted him top three are hoping for.

Dameon Pierce League Winner

Don’t look now, but Dameon Pierce finished as a top-twelve running back in Week Three. After a few weeks of his snaps trending up and Rex Burkhead’s trending down, Pierce saw most of the work in a 23 to 20 loss to the Chicago Bears. He was also efficient with the 20 carries he received, accumulating 80 yards on the ground, including a touchdown. Pierce may be limited by the offense and team he plays for, but to get RB2 production from a mid-round rookie pick is a win in dynasty fantasy football.

Jonathan Taylor Trust The Process

After three weeks, the dynasty RB1 is not living up to his label. He is currently RB8 in Half PPR formats, but much of that is due to a dominant performance in Week One. The past two weeks have been a pair of subpar games. However, he still receives an enormous workload averaging over 20 rush attempts per game. If any dynasty manager sees a dip in his value, you must jump on the opportunity to buy.

In the fantasy playoffs, Taylor gets the New York Giants defense in the championship round. The Giants are giving up the third most fantasy points to the running back position through three weeks. The big games will be coming again very shortly for Taylor.

This Jaguars Offense Is For Real

Doug Pederson has Trevor Lawrence and this Jacksonville Jaguars offense humming. They were able to hang 38 on the star-studded Los Angeles Chargers defense and sit atop the AFC South. Through three weeks, the Jaguars are top-ten in the league in scoring. The Chargers were the first real big test for this young offense, and they passed with flying colors. They have an even more challenging test next week against the Philadelphia Eagles. If Trevor can have a good day against Philadelphia, we may see his dynasty value restored.

Looking ahead for all the Lawrence managers, he faces some juicy matchups in the fantasy football title game. He still has Baltimore, Detroit, and Tennessee twice. These three teams are giving up some of the most points in the league to the quarterback position. Lawrence will be coming up clutch for fantasy managers for the rest of the 2022 season.

Information is the most powerful tool any dynasty fantasy football manager possesses. If you can stay on top of the correct information more than your league-mates, you will come out on top. The AFC South is home to some key fantasy players. Be sure to check back with us, as we will be breaking down takeaways from every division this week. And be sure to come back next week, as we will be doing the same for all 18 weeks of the 2022 NFL season!
