Week Three Takeaways: The Critical In The AFC East

@DanT_NFL is here to cover all the essential takeaways from NFL Week Three. Read on about the AFC East.

Week Three is in the books for the AFC East! We must focus on the top takeaways now that we have film and statistics to study. No longer can we rest on our offseason takes of who will succeed and who will fail. We now have an entire two weeks of NFL football to study. We can lead our team to a fantasy football title by focusing on weekly top takeaways! The fantasy season will move quickly, and in a dynasty, it is essential to acquire players before they break out or unload players before they falter.

Devin Singletary Emerges

Many fantasy analysts were questioning how any running back can produce in Buffalo, with Josh Allen commanding so much of the goal-line work this off-season. Well, through three weeks, Singletary is RB24 on the year. This is not league-winning production but a key depth piece in any title run. There were worries about a committee forming in Buffalo. They spent precious draft capital on Zach Moss even though they already had both Singletary and Zach Moss on the roster. Committee talks can be quelled as Singletary has out-snapped Cook and Moss by a resounding 138 to 82 this season! If there is doubt in Singletary in your dynasty leagues, send a second-round pick right now to add depth to your contending rosters.

Mac Jones Injury

Jones suffered what appears to be a severe ankle injury at the end of last week’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens. There are conflicting reports about how much time Jones will miss, but he is not playing this upcoming week against Green Bay. This injury will hurt all pass-catchers in this Patriots offense. Brian Hoyer will start as the backup quarterback, a downgrade to all pass catchers.

The positive movement here will be for the Patriots running back room. So far, we have seen Rhamodre Stevenson and Damien Harris operate in a committee, and I expect that trend to continue. However, the Patriots need to rely more on the running game to produce offense in Sunday’s matchup against the Packers. Both Harris and Stevenson will be startable in fantasy football this week.

Wide Receiver By Committee?

The Miami Dolphins offense is humming right now. One of the significant concerns over the off-season was whether or not Tua could support two fantasy-relevant wide receivers. Well, the answer so far is a resounding yes! Through three weeks, Waddle and Hill sit as the WR3 and WR6, respectively, in half-PPR. They are splitting a target share, but it does not seem to matter with production like this. To top it all off, Tua himself is the QB5 overall. Mike McDaniels is making a solid case for coach of the year if things like this continue down in South Beach.

Tyler Conklin League Winner

The tight-end position has been very gross for fantasy football in 2022. So much so that Conklin currently sits as the TE6 through three weeks in half-PPR formats. This comes on a season-long stat line of 18 catches for 140 yards and a touchdown. Conklin currently sits third on the team in targets behind only Garret Wilson and Elijah Moore.

The New York Jets are slated to make a quarterback change this upcoming week as Zach Wilson will be making his first start since his injury in the preseason. Now may be a good time to buy Conklin. I am sure that the narrative is that Wilson will be looking to drive the ball down the field more. However, Flacco has an Average Depth of Target (ADoT) of 8.3 through three weeks. This is higher than Wilson’s career average of 8.0. Conklin will likely continue to feast in this New York Jets offense, often playing from behind.

Information is the most powerful tool any dynasty fantasy football manager possesses. If you can stay on top of the correct information more than your league-mates, you will come out on top. Many key fantasy players call the AFC East home. Be sure to check back with us, as we will be breaking down takeaways from every division this week. And be sure to come back next week, as we will be doing the same for all 18 weeks of the 2022 NFL season!
