We are now over a month into this NFL season! We must focus on the top takeaways now that we have film and statistics to study. No longer can we rest on our offseason takes of who will succeed and who will fail. We now have a reasonably large sample size of NFL football. The fantasy season will move quickly, and in a dynasty, it is essential to acquire players before they break out or unload players before they falter. We can lead our team to a fantasy football title by focusing on weekly top takeaways!
Jalen Hurts League Winner
This past Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, Hurts had another big day. He completed 26 passes on 36 attempts for 239 yards. He also added 61 yards and two scores on the ground. This Eagles offense is humming, and they are currently the only undefeated team left in the league. Hurts dynasty managers must be very pleased with how 2022 is playing out.
Hurts may be single-handedly winning many dynasty managers their weekly matchups. He is currently QB3 on the year behind Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. However, before last season he was seen mostly as a backup option. The assent from depth piece to league winner has been quite impressive.
Dak Who?
Don’t look now, but the Dallas Cowboys are undefeated under Cooper Rush. He has won four straight this season since Dak went down with a hand injury, but you could add a victory last season to that stat. This includes Sunday’s upset over the defending Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams. Unfortunately, the NFC East is home to many winning teams, so, despite a 4-1 record, the Cowboys aren’t even on top of their division.
The formula for winning with Rush has been a lot of defense and a lot of run game. The Cowboys started Sunday’s victory with a strip sack for a touchdown and followed it up with a blocked punt that led to a short-yardage situation. Rush completed only ten passes in the victory, which is a new low after last week’s 15 completions. The pass attempts are trending down as the Cowboys’ defense has been playing better. Prescott is slated to make his return next week. CeeDee Lamb managers can breathe a sigh of relief.
Daniel Jones Contract Extension?
The narrative surrounding Jones and the New York Giants this offseason was one of rebuilding. The Giants didn’t pick up his fifth-year option, and all signs pointed to them moving on. Add to that the team was projected to finish at the bottom of the league, and Jones’s time in the league was coming to an end. At least as far as the Giants are concerned.
If we fast forward to Week Five, the Giants are 4-1 and are coming off of a victory against a Packers team that was in the playoffs the past few seasons. Jones played well, completing 21 of 27 pass attempts for 217 yards. He also added 37 yards on the ground on ten carries. If Jones continues playing this way, not only will the Giants play themselves out of a top draft pick, but the conversation will switch to a contract extension for the fourth-year player. Dynasty managers in Superflex leagues may want to think of acquiring Jones while the hype around him has been subdued.
Changing Of The Guard For The Commanders
The Washington Commanders are a team still looking for their identity. That includes name, branding, ownership, and, once again, quarterback. Carson Wentz had a chance to secure victory for the Commanders over the Tennessee Titans. Instead, he threw an interception at the goalline, securing a 21 – 17 Titans victory. Fans in Washington have been calling for Taylor Heinicke for weeks, and that voice is only growing stronger.
Wentz played fairly well in a loss. He completed 25 passes on 38 attempts for 359 yards. He also added a pair of touchdowns, but the interception is felt the hardest by the fanbase. Superflex managers may want to make sure they pick up Heinicke this week; we never know what to expect from Washington.
Information is the most powerful tool any dynasty fantasy football manager possesses. If you can stay on top of the correct information more than your league-mates, you will come out on top. Be sure to check back with us, as we will be breaking down takeaways from every division this week. And be sure to come back next week, as we will be doing the same for all 18 weeks of the 2022 NFL season!
