Week 3 injuries seemed fairly tame compared to Week 1 and 2, but we still ended up with one key fantasy asset going down for the year. Let’s recap:
Derek Carr, Shoulder AC Sprain- 1-2 Weeks
Carr went down hard on his shoulder, and an AC sprain is the best-case scenario in this situation. This initially looked like a potential clavicular fracture. Since this injury was to his throwing shoulder, he is expected to miss a week or two. It may take him about four weeks to feel like himself again. In the interim, his arm strength may be affected. Temper expectations upon his return for Carr and all pass catchers in this offense.
Derek Carr slammed down on right shoulder. Defender did not land on top of him. Probably AC sprain vs clavicle fracture. If no fracture return possible. pic.twitter.com/UHevbEAesV

Jimmy Garoppolo, Concussion- Week to Week
Stop me if you’ve heard this story before. Jimmy Garoppolo suffers an injury. At least this time, it’s “just” a concussion. His active status for Week 3 largely depends on his symptoms and his ability to make it through the concussion protocol before Week 4 games. Check back on Friday to see if he’s been cleared for practice.
Gus Edwards, Concussion- Week to Week
The Ravens backfield just can’t catch a break this year. Dobbins ruptured his Achilles, then Hill got turf toe, and now Edwards is concussed. Check back Friday to see if Edwards has made progress through the protocol to be given a chance at playing Week 4. If he is cleared, you may still hesitate to play him against one of the top rushing defenses this year.
Jonathan Mingo, Concussion- Week to Week
Seeing Mingo leave the matchup with the Seahawks last week was disappointing, as I felt he had a great opportunity for a breakout game. Thielen made that statement instead. Check back Friday to see if Mingo is cleared to play Week 4
Mike Williams, ACL Tear- Season Ending
Good news: we are still in a window of athletes being able to be ready for Week 1 of the 2024 season after suffering an ACL tear.
Bad news: it’s possible the team moves on from Williams after drafting Johnston this year, as well as taking into consideration the fact that he would only have ~12.5 million in dead cap if he were to be released. He will be turning 30 next October, coming off an ACL reconstruction, and if he were on a new team, that would be a significant blow to his fantasy value.
Mike Williams’ injury mechanism is classic for a torn ACL. MRI today to evaluate the extent of the injury 🙏🏻 pic.twitter.com/M58hZBVcSA
