That’s Going to Leave a Mark – Week 13 Injury Report

@JohnnyBGoodeFF breaks down how long your favorite fantasy player will be out of commission.

Jimmy Garoppolo – Foot Fracture, Season Ending

The injury sustained by Garoppolo is a classic example of when I say that individuals are highly likely to fracture a foot/ankle with excessive inversion rather than sprain the ligaments surrounding the inside of the foot/ankle. He won’t need surgery, and the ligamentous structures are intact. This preserves the NFL playoffs as a possibility for a return for Jimmy G. The benefit for dynasty managers is that we will see what Jimmy looks like coming back from this injury and can make a better determination on 2023. San Francisco has left open the possibility for him to be back in 2023, which makes sense, all things considered..

Lamar Jackson – PCL Sprain, 2-3 weeks

Technically, coach has said Jackson is “week-to-week,” however, I would expect Jackson to miss at least two weeks. These injuries tend to linger. There can be pain/swelling, which can result in the inhibition of the quadriceps muscle. Even when he does come back, fantasy managers won’t be able to rely on his rushing ability to increase his floor.

Trevor Lawrence – Knee/Foot, Week-to-Week

Lawrence suffered one of those injuries that looked way worse than it actually was. How he escaped without some serious knee damage still leaves me scratching my head. I would expect Lawrence to suit up this week, but monitor the injury report to set expectations for Week 14

Matthew Stafford – Neck/Spinal Cord Contusion, Season Ending

The Rams are out of the playoffs, so it makes sense to place Stafford on IR for his spinal cord contusion. The fact that Stafford couldn’t get out of the concussion protocol is concerning, and this explains why. Assuming he has a full recovery by 2023, there is still an underlying cause for his concussion to result in an injury to his spinal cord. I would not be surprised to see Stafford retire after the 2022 season. He has nothing to prove, and injuries like this sometimes suddenly put things into perspective for athletes.

Kenneth Walker – Ankle, 2-3 Weeks

Walker was reported to have “jammed” his ankle. This is an odd description of what could have happened, which leaves a wide array of speculation. Bone bruise, impingement, or an ankle sprain are all possibilities. The facts are largely unknown here, but I think Walker will likely miss at least two weeks due to this injury.

Treylon Burks – Concussion, Week-to-Week

Burks enter the concussion protocol following an impressive TD catch. Watch his participation throughout the week as he attempts to gain clearance to return for Week 14.

Courtland Sutton – Hamstring Strain, 2-3 Weeks

Hamstring strains typically take 2-3 weeks prior to returning. There is still an increased chance for re-aggravation once he does return, which would last another two weeks or so. Sutton has been brutally under-utilized in the Broncos’ offense. This is largely due to Russell Wilson’s ineptitude. Regardless, make alternative plans for your fantasy playoffs.

Hayden Hurst – Calf Strain, 2-4 Weeks

Calf strains tend to linger due to the job the calf musculature has during strenuous activity. Hurst is likely out for at least two weeks here as he recovers from his injury. This is another player you should make alternative plans for regarding your fantasy playoffs.
