Oronde Gadsden II | Player Introduction
Ranked as the 1,107th-best player in the 2021 recruiting cycle, Oronde Gadsden II committed to play wide receiver at the University of Syracuse. Like his father, former Miami Dolphin Oronde Gadsden Sr., he was a wide receiver entering college. However, at his size, he transitioned to tight end after one year for the Orange. In his first year at the position, Gadsden promptly was named to the First Team All-ACC team after catching 61 passes for 969 yards and 6 TDs.
With sky-high expectations heading into 2023, Gadsden unfortunately was injured after two games and missed the remainder of the season. He bounced back in 2024, catching 73 passes for 934 yards and 7 TDs, earning First Team All-ACC and Third Team All-American recognition.

No. 28 Overall Prospect | Ranked as TE4
Oronde Gadsden II is an intriguing tight end prospect out of Syracuse. He profiles as a nice weapon at the NFL level. He may take some time to adjust to the next level of professional competition, but I see some shades of Darren Waller in his game.

Another of those “my guy” type of players is Oronde Gadsden II. Analysts seem to either really like him, or really hate him. Count me in the former category. Tall and lanky, he will likely need to grow into the NFL TE position. However, he does bring legitimate receiving chops to the next level, having twice gone for over 900 yards at Syracuse. Gadsden also has excellent bloodlines and looks to offer some legitimate upside if he lands in the right spot.

Selected at 3.05 | Drafted as TE4
Dynasty managers often consider the later rounds of the draft as project players, but some of the most productive players in fantasy football have come from those rounds over the years. I solidified top options at the quarterback and running back positions early in this draft and followed up by adding a wide receiver who has high upside. In the 3rd round, I look to Syracuse’s tight end, Oronde Gadsden II. The former three-star recruit (247sports) is the son of Miami Dolphins WR Oronde Gadsden, who played 6 NFL seasons and totaled over 3,000 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns.
Tristan Cook’s Pre-NFL Combine Rankings
No. 4 Overall Tight End
Oronde Gadsden II dropped a spot from my 2.0 TE Rankings because there’s a little bit more unknown about his perception as a TE prospect. If you’re strictly looking at ability as a receiver, Gadsden might be the best in the TE class. After all, he is a converted wide receiver. He runs well, both in quickness and long-speed. He is incredibly athletic, has great hands, and can make spectacular catches. Gadsden is a polished route runner for the TE position and is a nightmare for defenses to match up against. The only question is how the NFL will view him.
Oronde Gadsden II | Draft Outlook
The NFL and the dynasty communities may view Oronde Gadsden II a bit differently. The NFL Draft will give us an answer to that question. If the NFL views him as a receiving weapon, Gadsden could be a late Day 2 pick, or even earlier. However, if the view him as a project TE, he may fall into the late portion of Day 3. For dynasty, he’s likely slotted as a late-round flyer, no matter what.
