Kyle Monangai | Player Introduction
In a world with an ever-evolving role for running backs, Kyle Monangai is a throwback to the glory days of workhorse, power running backs. As a 3-star recruit out of New Jersey, Monangai stayed close to home, choosing the Rutgers Scarlet Knights over the California Golden Bears, Air Force Falcons, and Navy Midshipmen. He had a quiet first two seasons before breaking out in 2023, his junior year.
During that campaign, he rushed for a Big 10 conference-leading 1,262 yards with 8 touchdowns, earning himself Second Team All-Big Ten and Pinstripe Bowl MVP honors. He chose to pass return to school for his senior year where he rushed for 1,279 yards and 13 TDs, this time earning First Team All-Big Ten honors. Kyle Monangai powered the Scarlet Knight offense, carrying the ball 25 or more times in half of his team’s games in 2024.

No. 31 Overall Prospect | Ranked RB13
Kyle Monangai plays with a ton of effort. He runs with maximum effort on every play. While he hasn’t shown much as a pass catcher, he has put up back-to-back 1,200 yard rushing seasons at Rutgers. He could certainly form the thunder portion of a RB tandem in the NFL.

This draft is full of great running back prospects, and Kyle Monangai is yet another name on that lengthy list. He does not have elite top-end speed, but he has great burst and power through the line of scrimmage. Perhaps the most interesting stat about Kyle Monangai? He had 669 career carries and 0 fumbles. Zero!

No. 36 Overall Prospect | Ranked RB14
Kyle Monangai is a tough to tackle, physical back. Monangai runs like a bowling ball rolling downhill, as he hits the hole fast, is a physical runner, and has shown aggression when pass blocking, all things the NFL will appreciate.

No. 12 Overall Running Back
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before… Kyle Monangai lacks elite top-end speed. However, he makes up for it with power and short-area quickness. He has very good vision behind the line and sets up his blocks nicely.
Kyle Monangai | Draft Outlook
The range of outcomes for Kyle Monangai is rather large. At some points, he’s looked like a possible Day 2 pick while at others it appeared that he may fall near the end of the draft. With the strength of this running back class, Monangai will likely end up being selected between the 4th and 6th rounds. For fantasy, his draft value will largely be dependent on his landing spot. If he ends up somewhere with a chance for early playing time, he’ll likely go off the board in rookie SF drafts in the 3rd round range.
