Jalen Milroe | Player Introduction

Coming out of Katy, TX, Jalen Milroe was a highly sought-after, top-100 overall recruit. He sat for two seasons before being named the starter in 2023. He struggled with inconsistent play early in the year before leading the Crimson Tide to the College Football Playoff. Milroe tallied 2,834 yards passing with 23 TDs and 6 INTs. However, where he excelled was utilizing his legs, running for another 531 yards and 12 TDs. In doing so, Milroe received significant national recognition. He was named to the All-SEC second team, was a Manning Award finalist, a semifinalist for the Maxwell and Davey O’Brien awards, and was sixth in Heisman Trophy voting.

His 2024 season was similarly inconsistent at times, but Milroe once again displayed his rushing ability with 726 yards and 20 TDs on the ground. He was named as a semifinalist for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, the Maxwell Award, the Walter Camp Player of the Year, and the Davey O’Brien Award.

No. 5 Overall Prospect | Ranked as QB3

I was happy to see Jalen Milroe decide to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft. I know putting Milroe here in my 2025 Rookie Big Board rankings is going to be polarizing. Milroe had a poor game in the ReliaQuest Bowl in a loss to Michigan with two fumbles, an interception, and a fourth-down sack in the first four drives alone.

For a prospect who has been described as the fastest and most athletic player on the Alabama Crimson Tide, how can you not believe an NFL GM is going to fall in love with him come draft season? If Milroe is taken in the 1st Round, he’s going to be a top pick in dynasty rookie drafts. Who is going to say no to a quarterback with the rushing upside that he has?

No. 15 Overall Prospect | Ranked as QB4

Jalen Milroe only finds himself near the top of the 2nd round on my 2025 Rookie Big Board because of the inflated value of QBs in SF formats. While he does have the best rushing upside of all rookie QBs, his passing mechanics are concerning. Never having thrown for 3,000 yards or 25 TDs in a season screams that he is already at his ceiling, which doesn’t make him an appetizing rookie selection.

No. 16 Overall Prospect | Ranked as QB4

I have not been very high on Jalen Milroe from the jump. I see some really worrying signs about his accuracy and decision making. However, his talent as an athlete with the ball in his hands is undeniable. He is the kind of player who could turn into a league winner if he lands in the right spot, where they make a concerted effort to slowly develop him instead of throwing him immediately into the fire like Anthony Richardson. In a SuperFlex format, I am gambling on this type of upside every time at the QB position.

Tristan Cook’s Pre-NFL Combine QB Rankings

No. 4 Overall Quarterback

None of the QBs in this tier—potentially none of the players in this class—have as many unanswered questions, and as wide of a range of outcomes, as Jalen Milroe. During his career, his projection has gone from Day 3 project (at best) to potential QB1 in the class—and everywhere in between. Milroe is undoubtedly the best athlete at the QB position and the most dynamic as a runner in the 2025 class. But, he’s also far from the best passer.

As I’ve said before, the question for me is if Jalen Milroe is a good enough runner to outweigh the growing pangs that he will face throwing the ball in the NFL. To date, when he has been forced to beat teams with his arm rather than his legs, he has struggled. For that reason, I have him firmly in Tier 3 of my 2025 Quarterback Rankings. If Milroe can develop as a passer like Jalen Hurts and Lamar Jackson, the sky’s the limit. However, if he struggles, he could flame out quickly. Because his upside is so mesmerizing, I expect him to be drafted late in the 1st Round or early in the 2nd Round of the NFL Draft.

Jalen Milroe | Draft Outlook

Jalen Milroe’s draft stock has fluctuated throughout the season. The height of his hype saw Milroe in the discussion for the No. 1 overall pick. Unfortunately, late-season slide has pushed his draft stock down. His low-point was a Day 3 selection. However, after a mid 4.4s 40-yard dash at his pro day, the hype train may pick up speed. For fantasy, Jalen Milroe has all the traits for a dominant fantasy QB. However, unless he he is drafted into a situation where he can become starter, he will likely be a round 3 selection in SF rookie drafts.
