Now that the NFL Draft is over, it is time for our Rookie Drafts! Dynasty players have been waiting to draft since the Super Bowl. Without knowing rookie landing spots, it’s tough to build your franchise around what will be available in the rookie draft. This draft season, I will break down the best time to draft your IDP rookies.
I will base the entire draft process on our IDP123 scoring rubric. If you are thinking of starting an IDP league or want to adjust the one you have for more balance, then these are the scoring settings you need.
Before I break down the top IDP to draft, I want to help everyone understand the positional importance of IDP with a small positional value chart with some examples.
Positional Value
Inside/Weak Side Linebackers: Darius Leonard, Devin White, Roquan Smith, Micah Parsons,
Edge Rushers: TJ Watt, Myles Garrett, Nick Bosa, Josh Allen
Defensive Backs: Kenny Moore, Derwin James, Budda Baker
How to Draft IDP?
*Based- Standard/SF 12 Team League.
Your league setup is paramount to your draft strategy. Make sure to have an understanding of the roster and scoring. For example, do the points stack? You want to have 2-3 DL, 2-3 LB, 2-3DB, and 2-3 Flex for a quality IDP league. Bringing balance to the league, and if you’re using IDP 123 scoring, then certain positional players will be worth the pick.
Most leagues are not as balanced on both sides of the ball. Typically the offense will determine how the 1st round goes because the roster caters to fill more offense. You can’t go after one of these players in the Top 8 of the 1st Round unless it’s a Micah Parsons type player, which isn’t the case this year.
You’re not taking an IDP in the 1st round this year unless maybe Devin Lloyd, who is a walk-in-the-door starter at the Will (Weak Side LB). If your need is LB and the offense you wanted was sniped, this wouldn’t be a bad pick. That brings me to the 2nd round, where most of the final offensive players will go, and the top-tier IDP will be on the move. The 3rd round and beyond is where the sleeper offense will come off, and the big run on IDP will come as the positions begin to dry up rather quickly. Anything after the 3rd round will come down to your due diligence because some lovely sleepers do fall through the cracks.

Not many leagues have more than five rounds for the rookie draft, so it leaves some FA action. DO NOT think you need to go after an IDP ahead of his time when plenty of talent is available. The IDP will be there, seeing how most are not familiar with IDP in a prominent capacity as you will be, though.
