IDP Nerds Man Coverage: IDP Start/Sit Week 9

@Glosser13 drops his week 9 #FFIDP start/sit recommendations

Welcome back, IDP Nerds. It’s time for another week of IDP content from your team leader at Dynasty nerds. We are struggling to find consistency right now, as is the case across many IDP dynasty leagues. We came in at 50% accuracy last week, not where we want to be but a step in the right direction after a few below-average weeks. Our season total is just over 60%, and we look to get things back on track starting with Week 9. Let’s look at this week’s matchups and see if we can find those start and sit options for you.

Check out the teams putting together the start/sit columns this season. Follow us, friend us, and tweet us. We look forward to hearing from you!

NOTE: Rankings are based on a 12-team PPR league. So, saying WR2 means top 24, or TE1 means top 12, etc., and are pulled from Fantasy Pros consensus expert rankings.

Los Angeles Chargers @  Atlanta Falcons

Sit

Lorenzo Carter, LB/DL, Atlanta Falcons

This season, Lorenzo Carter is starting to make a name for himself with the Atlanta Falcons. The former Georgia Bulldogs pass rusher has two and a half sacks this season and is coming off a 22-point performance in Week 8, which included an interception return for a touchdown. Carter finished last season on fire with five sacks and two forced fumbles over his last four games. He’s on pace to set career highs in sacks and fantasy points this season.

The Atlanta Falcons defense looks to have its hands full in Week 9 against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers’ offensive line has allowed the fewest sacks in the NFL this season (10) and the third-fewest interceptions (4). Carter has been sacked dependent this season, and a matchup against the league’s best pass-blocking offensive line does not bode well for him. I would look for a safer play for reliable fantasy points this week.

Miami Dolphins @  Chicago Bears

Start

Nicholas Morrow LB, Chicago Bears

Nicholas Morrow should benefit greatly from the Roquan Smith trade. The Chicago Bears linebacker has been solid this season, totaling 99 fantasy points through his first eight games. I wouldn’t expect tomorrow to be able to replace Roquan’s tackling numbers (84) as he leads the NFL through eight weeks. He will play a much larger role in the Bears defense going forward. Morrow has finished with double-digit fantasy points in 75% of his games this season. He’s likely in for a long day with the Miami Dolphins coming to town and should have many opportunities in a supposed big tackle game.

Carolina Panthers @  Cincinnati Bengals

Start

Frankie Luvu LB, Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers got a much-needed weapon back on their defense with the return of Frankie Luvu. I was concerned with the shoulder injury, which would limit his snaps, but that was not the case as he returned to full strength in Week 8. Luvu posted his third 20 + point game of the season, and it’s the linebacker you want on your dynasty team from the Carolina Panthers.

The Panthers linebacker has recorded at least five tackles in five of six games this season. Over those six games, he’s averaging 19.6 fantasy points per game. He should be able to turn in another big performance against the Cincinnati Bengals offense, which allowed 18 tackles to the Browns’ starting linebackers last week.

Green Bay Packers @  Detroit Lions

Sit

Kerby Joseph DB, Detroit Lions

Kirby Joseph has been forced into action earlier than expected during his rookie season due to the injury to Tracy Walker. The University of Illinois product has struggled in his first few NFL games over the past two games. He has logged 100% of the defensive snaps. He has recorded 11 tackles and two forced fumbles in the last two games, scoring double-digit fantasy points in each contest. A matchup with the struggling Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers is on the schedule for Week 9.

The 2022 version of the Green Bay Packers offense is struggling to find its way in the passing game, forcing them to run the ball as it is the strength of their offense. Joseph is struggling against the run, posting below-average PFF run defense grades in each game this season. The rookie safety averages under seven box snaps per game and is a much better coverage player than he has run defender at this early point of his career. While it’s exciting that he’s posting double-digit fantasy points, I would temper expectations this week and look for a better option.

Las Vegas Raiders @  Jacksonville Jaguars

Sit

Chandler Jones DL, Las Vegas Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders defense is struggling right now, coming off a 24-0 loss to the New Orleans Saints last week. The struggles of the Raiders’ offense are the topic of conversation, but Patrick Graham’s defense has done the team no favors through the first seven games of the season. The addition of prized free-agent Chandler Jones in the off-season has been a complete flop.

The former stud pass-rusher is off to one of the worst starts in his career, with just one half-sack through the first seven games. IDP managers should see no reason to have Jones in their starting lineup. He’s failed to record more than four tackles in any game this season and has zero impact plays. There are more reliable options on the waiver wire week than trusting Chandler Jones in your starting lineup.

Indianapolis Colts @  New England Patriots

Start

Grover Stewart DL, Indianapolis Colts

It’s that time again to show the defensive tackles some love. I have a good one for those IDP managers that play in DT-premium leagues. Grover Stewart has been balling as of late. The Colts’ interior pass-rusher has collected 24 tackles over his last three games while averaging just over 18 fantasy points per game. He has benefited greatly from playing alongside defensive tackle DeForest Buckner and is on Pace to have a career year. I recommend you ride the hot hand as he draws a matchup against a New England Patriots offensive line that allowed six sacks in their last game.

Buffalo Bills @  New York Jets

Start

Damar Hamlin DB, Buffalo Bills

I’m sure by now you guys are sick of the Damar Hamlin love I’ve been showing during this article weekly. The former Pittsburgh Panther has been lights out for the Buffalo defense in the absence of Micah Hyde. he plays with an attitude and swagger that IDP managers should thoroughly enjoy when watching the Buffalo Bills defense play. Hamlin has averaged 14.2 fantasy points per game over his last five starts. The Bills coaching staff seems to trust him regardless of whether Jordan Poyer is in the game. As long as he keeps producing solid fantasy starts for your teams, there’s no reason to sit Damar Hamlin.

Minnesota Vikings @  Washington Commanders

Start

Danielle Hunter DL, Minnesota Vikings

Former LSU Tiger makes his second consecutive appearance on the start column. Hunter is coming off his third consecutive double-digit fantasy performance. Although his sack streak came to an end last week as he failed to get a sack for the third straight game. The Minnesota Vikings defensive line is averaging three sacks per game over their first two months of the season.

The Washington commanders have allowed the third-most sacks of any team in the NFL this season. Taylor Heinicke has enjoyed success in his first two starts. Taking over as a Commander’s signal-caller, he is in for his stiffest test of the season against a ferocious Vikings pass rush. Look for Danielle Hunter to continue his double-digit points streak and hopefully get back in the sack column in Week 9.

Seattle Seahawks @  Arizona Cardinals

Start

Michael Jackson DB, Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks have been one of the most surprising teams over the first half of the NFL season. If we are going to show the CB-required leagues some love, why not go with a guy playing with a ton of confidence? Seattle cornerback Michael Jackson has been playing so well over the past month of the season. Jackson has recorded 17 tackles over the past three games, averaging 17.3 fantasy points per game. The Seattle DB has been a high-volume tackler as a cornerback, and for IDP managers, you can’t ask for much more than that. He’s a highly recommended streaming option in non-CB-required formats if you’re looking for bye-week fill-in production in your lineup.

Los Angeles Rams @  Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Sit

Joe Tryon-Shoyinka DL, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The hits just keep coming for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After suffering their fifth loss in the last six games, the team looks completely lost. The team was hit with another big blow when their best pass rusher Shaq Barrett was ruled out for the season after suffering an Achilles injury last Thursday. The Bucs will now rely on second-year pass rusher Joe Tryon-Shoyinka to make an impact upfront. The former first-round pick has 2.5 sacks on the season but is playing as a situational pass rusher. The Los Angeles Rams offensive line is not good, but a low-volume pass-rushing defensive lineman is not a smart play heading into a huge matchup for both teams this weekend.

Tennessee Titans @  Kansas City Chiefs

Start

Willie Gay LB, Kansas City Chiefs

Willie Gay seems to be turning a corner in his third season with the Kansas City Chiefs. He started the season hot before serving a four-game suspension for an off-the-field violation. The former Mississippi State linebacker returned with a big eight tackle and one-half-sack performance in Week 7 before the team’s bye. It took a few seasons, but the troubled linebacker and defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo have seemed to find a way to make it work. IDP managers who have held onto Willie Gay over the years are benefiting now. I like rolling him out in your lineup this week with some strong teams on the bye. He can be sneaky good value in your lineup.

Baltimore Ravens @  New Orleans Saints

Start

Chuck Clark DB, Baltimore Ravens

Chuck Clark has continued to prove the doubters wrong this season. The former Virginia Tech defensive back is averaging 6.5 tackles per game and has scored ten fantasy points or more in six of his eight games this season. The new-look Baltimore Ravens defense will head into New Orleans for a primetime matchup with the Saints. I think Clark bounces back from a subpar week and posts a respectable week for his dynasty managers.

The Wrap-up

That will do it for Week 9 Nerds. I’m hoping you have all used this weekly content to your benefit in one way or another. I’m fully aware of the grind and headaches caused by being an IDP manager in a deep league. The hope is that you can use all the tools at your disposal to make the best-educated guess on who to start every week. As always, I appreciate you taking the time to read my content, and I wish you the best of luck in your matchups this weekend.
