Emeka Egbuka | Player Introduction

It’s not very often that a top-10 overall recruit who became the most prolific wide receiver in the history of a school like Ohio State would be overshadowed, but that is the story for Emeka Egbuka. Coming out of Steilacoom, WA, Egbuka picked the Buckeyes. He played a minor role during his freshman season, but exploded as a sophomore in 2022.

Egbuka caught 74 passes for 1,151 yards and 10 TDs while adding another 2 TDs on the ground. His performance earned Egbuka second team All-Big 10 honors as well as being named a finalist for the Paul Hornung Award (most versatile player). Emeka Egbuka tallied 500+ and 1,000+ yards over his final two seasons, finishing with 205 receptions for 2,868 yards, both the most in program history.

No. 7 Overall Prospect | Ranked as WR3

Since starting to assemble my 2025 draft class rankings, Emeka Egbuka has always had a soft spot in my mind, as the most pro-ready receiver in this class. Egbuka is another receiver from the receiver factory that is Ohio State and will be in a ton of 1st Round conversations.

Egbuka handles his work out of the slot in such a natural way that shows he can seamlessly transition to the NFL. An unheralded part of his tape that stands out is his aggressiveness and willingness to get dirty in the run game, something that reminds me of Cooper Kupp’s role in Sean McVay’s offense. While that isn’t to say that Egbuka is a great blocker, he is certainly above-average and can immediately contribute to any NFL team right out of the gate.

No. 8 Overall Prospect | Ranked as WR2

Emeka Egbuka was one of my biggest risers from my previous article. The OSU speedster managed to put up his second 1,000 yard season of his career, despite playing second fiddle to a record setting freshman talent. Egbuka reminds me of Terry McLaurin. You rarely ever hear either of these players as they prefer to allow their play on the field to do the talking for them. Egbuka has the potential to be an even better pro than a collegiate player, despite leaving OSU as the all-time leader in receptions.

Egbuka has the body type and potential to play virtually any position on an NFL offense. His size and speed allow him to easily play the boundary as either an “X” or “Z” receiver. His shiftiness and quick twitch ability combined with a solid pair of hands also make him an ideal fit in the slot. I believe that he will be drafted sometime between the end of the 1st and 2nd rounds. If he gets that type of draft capital, I believe that he will be the consensus WR2 in this draft class, and I am happy to grab him here in the back half of the 1st round of a dynasty rookie draft.

No. 13 Overall Prospect | Ranked as WR4

This is going to sound like a slight, but the best way I can describe how I view Emeka Egbuka is a perfectly fine wide receiver. Sounds terrible, doesn’t it? It is, and it isn’t. He will have a long NFL career, but so have other “perfectly fine” Ohio State wide receivers. Egbuka is closer to players like Parris Cambell and Curtis Samuel than he is to Garrett Wilson or Jaxon Smith-Njigba. On one hand, Egbuka is a polished prospect with a great deal of college experience, and he will be an immediate starter in the NFL. On the other, I simply wonder if his fantasy football ceiling is limited.

Tristan Cook’s Pre-NFL Combine Rankings

No. 4 Overall Wide Receiver

Emeka Egbuka had a rather quiet 2024 season. But, I have seen enough on the field to know what he can be at the NFL level. As a prospect, Egbuka profiles best as a slot receiver. He is a well-polished route runner who can find the holes in a defense and excels after the catch. Egbuka is quicker than he is fast, but can surprise you with his smooth running style. If he tests well leading up to the draft, he could sneak into the bottom of Tier 1 of my 2025 WR Rankings.

Emeka Egbuka | Draft Outlook

As one of the safest receivers in the class, it seems likely that Emeka Egbuka will be drafted in the 1st Round of the NFL Draft. If he slides out of the first, he won’t fall far out of the round. His professional and workmanlike personality have elevated his stock. For fantasy, Egbuka is also one of the safest players in the class, and will be off the board before the 1st round of rookie drafts is over.
