Dollar Store Tight Ends for 2024

We are sticking with the theme of Dollar Store players that you should buy this offseason. This time, we are talking about some tight ends that could help your dynasty roster in 2024.

Tyler Conklin – NYJ

Starting at the top is Conklin, the tight end for the Jets. He has been a very underrated tight end the last few years in dynasty. He has over 550 receiving yards in each of the last three seasons. Conklin has played for some bad Jets offenses the previous two seasons but managed to be a top-20 tight end in the last two seasons. If Conklin would have scored some touchdowns in 2023, he may have been more on the map for 2024. He would have finished as a borderline TE1 if he scored four touchdowns in 2023.

Conklin is getting a chance to play with Aaron Rodgers in 2024. Over Rodgers’ career, his tight end has accounted for 20% of his total touchdowns. The last time he had a very good, healthy tight end, it was Robert Tonyan, who had 500 yards and 11 touchdowns. The Jets don’t have a strong second option outside Garrett Wilson on the team. Breece Hall will get his targets in the backfield, but the true pass catchers are questionable. Can Mike WIlliams stay healthy, or can Malachi Corley thrive as a rookie? Well, I don’t believe both will likely happen in 2024. This will give Conklin a prime opportunity to succeed on the Jets offense.

The Jets were in the bottom three in passing offense last year. The return of Rodgers should at least bring them up to the middle of the pack, which will give them more opportunities in this offense. This is where Conklin could see a touchdown opportunity, as the team should expect more than 11 passing touchdowns. He was already ninth in red zone targets, so expect him to be able to score in 2024. Conklin is a cheap option for a contending team to buy low. In leagues, you can give up cheap assets to obtain Conklin, who could end up as a low-end TE 1 in 2024.

Jelani Woods – IND

Woods missed all of 2023 due to some hamstring issues. He was a third-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft. Woods was a raw talent who had a massive size to his build. Woods is 6’7″ and 259 lbs. He is a beast of a tight end who, only as recent as his freshman year in college, switched to tight end from quarterback. During the 2022 season, Woods would get some opportunity to showcase his talent. He was in a rotation for most of his rookie season. There was one game in which Woods would dominate with nine receptions for 98 yards, and he played 64 % of the snaps in that game.

Woods would rank 14th in YPT and 8th in YPR during that season. His ADOT that season would rank fourth among all tight ends. Woods is entering the 2024 healthy and has been participating in OTAs. The team is much different than it was when he last played. Woods could benefit as a big target over the middle of the field with Anthony Richardson’s arm talent. There is a lot of talent in the offense, but Woods should get opportunities to showcase his talent. He is going for pennies on the dollar in dynasty right now. In TE premium leagues, I’d have no issues giving up any third-round pick for Woods’ services in dynasty. He is a young tight end who is still developing in an offense that is looking to take a step toward being very good.

Dawson Knox – BUF

The last Dollar Store tight end is Knox. He is being very overlooked in dynasty due to the rise of Dalton Kincaid in the offense. Before 2023, Knox was rising as a solid fantasy tight end. He had back-to-back 500-yard seasons with 15 combined touchdowns in 2021 and 2022. It led to him getting a contract extension through the 2026 season. Last year, Knox sustained an injury to his wrist, which he tried to play through for two additional games after injuring. He would eventually have to get surgery and miss five games in 2023.

Before his injury, Knox was the lead tight end over Kincaid on the field and had 24 targets in the first six weeks of the season. Unfortunately for him, his fantasy season was horrible because he had just two games over seven fantasy points in 2023. Even in his return in week 14, Knox split time more with Kincaid than just taking over the starting role. Knox could still have value even with Kincaid taking the next step in his development on offense.

The Bills are losing 285 targets from last season, which must go somewhere. The Bills don’t have a true WR1 in the offense that could see 140 targets in 2024. The offense is going to be spread out. Knox may not have TE1 upside, but it’s a great time to buy low on a player who has lost much of his fantasy value over the year. He will be involved in the offense as he is the better blocker and will have the opportunity in the red zone. The Bills were a team that did not run a lot of 12 personnel, and I expect that to rise in 2024. Knox is a cheap buy, and it’s low to have on your bench. Knox would get a significant boost if something were to happen to Kincaid. I think he can be serviceable through bye weeks and deeper leagues.
