Devin Neal | Player Introduction

In the modern football landscape, not often do we see a running back star at one program for four years. But that’s what Kansas had with Devin Neal. During his tenure in Lawrence, KS, Neal amassed a school record 4,343 rushing yards, including 3 seasons with over 1,000 yards. His only season to fall shy of the mark was his freshman year, where he still managed 700+ yards.

Devin Neal is synonyms with the University of Kansas. He attended high school in Lawrence, and has his name written all over the school’s record book. He received national honors on numerous occasions, including being named to All-Big 12 teams in each of his four seasons.

No. 14 Overall Prospect | Ranked as RB6

Devin Neal is one of my guilty pleasures in the 2025 draft class. He brings excellent size and athleticism to the position. At Kansas, he was the primary weapon in the Jayhawks offense, posting three consecutive 1,000 yard seasons. He is also a competent pass catcher, bringing in over 20 catches each of the last 3 years. I’ve got a feeling Neal is going to impress in the pre-draft process and find his way to an NFL team no later than the 4th Round, giving him an excellent shot to compete for touches right away. I see a bigger Bucky Irving – a player who is lightning quick in small spaces who will chew up chunk plays left and right.

No. 17 Overall Prospect | Ranked as RB6

Devin Neal is a curious case of a good player in a bad offense, as the Kansas Jayhawks didn’t exactly field a competitive unit on that side of the ball. Having rushed for 1,000 yards in three of four seasons, Neal was clearly the focal point of the Kansas offense during his career. His receiving chops were on display too, as he hauled in 20+ passes in each of his final three seasons. Neal might not be getting the kinds of headlines other RBs in this class are, but that positions him well as a bit of a sleeper in your rookie drafts.

No. 19 Overall Prospect | Ranked as RB6

Do you hear the rookie hype drumbeat getting louder and louder? If so, it is likely for Devin Neal out of Kansas. Neal is such a fun player to watch, and from all accounts, he sounds like a great person, too. Neal chose to stay at Kansas last season rather than opting out early for the NFL Draft, further cementing his status as a hometown hero for his Jayhawks. With 4,343 yards in four seasons, Devin Neal is also Kansas’s all-time leader in career touchdowns. Neal is dangerous in open space and excels in the screen game. If you’re looking for the “late-round PPR Guy” everyone will be buzzing about this spring, look no further than Devin Neal.

Tristan Cook’s Pre-NFL Combine Rankings

No. 6 Overall Running Back

Devin Neal is another player that hasn’t quite run his way into Tier 2 (pun intended), but he’s just outside the door. Neal has quick feet, varies his speed well, and seems to elude at least one tackler on every play. Neal is a more-than-capable receiver of the ball. My biggest concern for Neal is his lack of a standout trait. He’s not overly athletic, so it wouldn’t surprise me if his draft stock slides a bit after the NFL Combine. However, I think that could end up creating value.

Devin Neal | Draft Outlook

Because of the strength of this draft class, Devin Neal may fall a bit further in the draft than he otherwise would. It would be a surprise if his name is called prior to the 3rd Round, but he could fall all the way into the middle Day 3. For dynasty rookie drafts, Neal’s outlook is both landing spot and draft capital dependent. His range is the end of the 2nd round of rookie drafts all the way into the early 4th round if he falls.
