Deep Dynasty Stashes: AFC East

Sometimes, the long shots in a dynasty are a pleasant surprise. We discussed the AFC East's deep dynasty stashes for 2024.

Welcome to Dynasty Nerds’ newest series of Deep Dynasty Stashes. We’ll look at players who you could stash on your taxi squad or at the bottom of your bench to see if there is a progression in these players to make an impact in fantasy eventually. We have four players who could do just that, whether it allows them to sit on your taxi squad and see if they develop. There is a player who could sneak into playing time or one player who may need a change of scenery, which could happen this offseason.

Jordan Travis – NYJ

A few players could be considered deep stashes for the Jets, like receiver Jason Brownlee or rookie running back Isaiah Davis. There is one player at quarterback for those owners of Superflex leagues that should be considered for a taxi squad spot.

Quarterback Jordan Travis should be considered a player to stash and wait to see what happens with him. Travis helped lead Florida State to a 13-1 record in 2023 with overall decent stats. Over his last two seasons, he put up 5,900 passing yards and a 44:7 touchdown to interception ratio. He has shown solid mobility throughout his career, with over 400 rushing yards in three different seasons.

Unfortunately, Travis tore his ACL late in the college season, which led to him missing the end of the year. Despite the injury and inadequate college ranking, Jordan landed in the fifth round to the New York Jets. Even after the draft, Travis barely got drafted in many rookie drafts.

He won’t play this year because the team has Aaron Rodgers at quarterback. Travis could stay on as the QB3 and learn under Rodgers and Tyrod Taylor as he rehabs his leg injury. If the Jets perform to the level everyone expects under Rodgers, then the Jets won’t have a top pick to acquire a quarterback in the future. This could lead Travis to have a potential future as a starting quarterback or at least a competing position.

Frank Gore Jr. – BUF

The next player is a familiar name in the football world, Frank Gore Jr. After the draft, Gore quickly lands with the Bills as an undrafted rookie. Gore isn’t as built as his father but has an impressive college resume. He finished four years at Southern Mississippi with 4,000 rushing yards and another 700 in the receiving game. He is not an elite athlete but had great vision and lateral agility when watching the film during his games.

The Bills running back situation has always been average at best. James Cook is coming off a solid season in 2023, but there are still question marks about whether he can be a workhorse running back, which opens the door for someone else. The Bills drafted Ray Davis in the fifth round, but he is mostly just a short-yard type of player and is an older running back prospect at 25. If Gore Jr’s work ethic is anything like his father’s, he may have a shot to make the team. Whether or not he makes the Bills in 2024, his name value may give him opportunities in a different backfield. He is a player who you should stash on dynasty taxi squads.

Tyquan Thornton – NEP

The Patriots didn’t have many players you want to stash on your dynasty rosters. They have running back Kevin Harris, but he is just a guy. Rookie tight end Jahiem Bell is interesting, but I’m not sure what type of role will fit in this offense. The receiving group seems to be forming well to have a decent group in 2024. Tyquan Thornton could be the odd man out in the offense and be moved in a trade. That’s why he is considered a stash: he could find himself in an offense that would give him the opportunity.

Thornton was a former second-round pick considered a reach at the time, but his blazing speed made him an exciting prospect. He had 338 receiving yards in two seasons and played fewer games in 2023 than in 2022. While Thornton wasn’t the most complete prospect, he has been in a shit situation the last two years with subpar quarterback play and a terrible offense. Thornton has also dealt with injuries and has missed ten games over these first two years. Both injuries occurred in the preseason, which is critical to a young player’s development in an offense for a season. While Thornton’s stash isn’t about him performing with the Patriots, it is the potential for him to move to another team to jump-start his career.

Julian Hill – MIA

The last player of this article is Julian Hill. This one may be for the deepest leagues, as many don’t know who this is. I could have gone with one of the Miami rookie receivers, Malik Washington or Tahj Washington. My favorite receivers are Erik Ezukanma and Braylon Sanders, but the competition for receivers is tough in Miami, and many of them may not make the roster. Hill attended a smaller school at Campbell University, where he first started playing tight end. He would finish with 1,218 receiving yards and seven touchdowns over 48 games. He was an undrafted rookie who landed with the Dolphins last year.

Hill is in his second season with the Dolphins, who don’t have their tight end position fully secured yet. Jonnu Smith signed there this offseason, but his production has been inconsistent with his NFL career. Durham Sythme is a solid blocking tight end but lacks the talent in the receiving game.

Despite playing in a smaller school, Hill managed to get in the rotation last season with the Dolphins. He is a big-bodied tight end, standing at 6’4″ and 252 lbs. The Dolphins need to find that physical tight end to mesh with the smaller, faster guys, and Hill could do that. He is worth a stash throughout the offseason to see if he has developed during these months.
