Colston Loveland | Player Introduction
Coming out of Gooding, ID, a town of fewer than 4,000 people, Colston Loveland is the 8th-highest ranked recruit from the state of Idaho of all time. He chose the University of Michigan over the likes of LSU, Auburn, and Alabama. Loveland had a moderate first year on campus, catching 16 passes for 235 yards and 2 TDs. However, he stepped his game up during Michigan’s title run in 2023 and doubled down on it in 2024. Over those two years, Loveland caught 101 passes for 1,231 yards and 9 TDs, including a Michigan TE record of 56 receptions in 2024. This past year, he earned second All-American honors and was a Mackey Award finalist.

No. 13 Overall Prospect | Ranked as TE2
It’s quite a fun tight end class this year and Michigan’s Colston Loveland should be one of the first TE names called in April. As the best pass catcher on the Michigan Wolverine offense last season, Loveland’s 56 receptions for 582 yards and 5 touchdowns might not jump off the page, but he is more than those numbers. While a bit indecisive at times in blocking situations, Loveland can hold his own when locked in a one-on-one matchup, which will earn him playing time. His receiving chops are strong, and he should be in play with an early 2nd round pick.

No. 14 Overall Prospect | Ranked as TE2
Dynasty managers are eyeing the running backs in this class, but don’t sleep on the number of talented tight ends available. Michigan’s Colston Loveland stands out for his college production and his fantasy football potential in the NFL. In three seasons at Michigan, he compiled 117 receptions for 1,466 yards and 11 touchdowns. At 6’5”, he has excellent size and is a phenomenal blocker, which will help him see the field early. He reminds me of a young Zach Ertz. He may not have the explosive yards after the catch skills that other elite tight ends have, but he will accumulate receptions in the right offense.

No. 14 Overall Prospect | Ranked as TE2
Leading off my 2nd round, I am going back to the TE position. Colston Loveland entered the 2024 season as nearly the consensus top TE. He honestly didn’t disappoint, as he led the Wolverines in receiving yards. The problem is his 582 receiving yards led one of the most conservative passing attacks in the nation. While I don’t believe that he offers the same type of upside as Warren, Colston Loveland also appears likely to be taken in the 1st Round of the upcoming NFL Draft. With his pedigree and his likely draft capital, I will take him in this range all day every day as he moves up my draft board.

No. 2 Overall Tight End
Not to be too overshadowed, Michigan’s Colston Loveland is a well-rounded tight end prospect in his own right and will likely see the field right away. His 2024 season was notably worse than during Michigan’s championship season the year prior. However, the same can be said for the entire Wolverine team. We saw in 2024 that Colston Loveland is able to produce in spite of his surroundings—not because of them.
He is a good athlete that utilizes his size well. Loveland is a better route runner than Warren and will likely clock in faster during the 40-yard dash. His best traits are contested catches and running after the catch. The biggest area of concern for Loveland is his skills as a blocker. In the right situation, I would take Loveland over Warren.
Colston Loveland | Draft Outlook
Colston Loveland has been overshadowed a bit by Penn State’s Tyler Warren. However, he is slated to be drafted in the 1st Round of the NFL Draft and is the 12th overall player on Mel Kiper’s latest 2025 Big Board (ESPN+). As such, Colston Loveland will garner 1st round rookie draft consideration. I would feel better about getting him in the early-to-mid 2nd round of rookie drafts, but he likely will be gone by then.
