Ashton Jeanty | Player Introduction

Coming out of Lone Star HS in Frisco, TX, Ashton Jeanty was a lightly-recruited RB prospect. As the 1284th-ranked player in the 2022 class, he only received offers from two Power 5 conference schools, California and Kansas. Jeanty instead chose to head northwest to Boise State. Many people were introduced to Jeanty during his all-world 2024 season.

However, he ran for over 2,100 yards during his first 2 seasons, including 1,347 and 14 TDs in 2023. He was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year and second team All-American. Jeanty’s dominant 2024 campaign launched him into the stratosphere, as he ran for 2,601 yards on 374 carries with 29 TDs. He finished 2nd in the Heisman voting but took home the Doak Walker, Maxwell, Bobby Bowden, and Earl Campbell awards, along with being named a first-team All American.

No. 1 Overall Prospect | Ranked as RB1

Nine times out of 10, I will take a QB at the top of a rookie SuperFlex draft. However, this is that one year where the skill player is simply too talented to pass up. Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty is a rare talent. He will immediately jump into the Top 5 of many dynasty RB rankings. This past season he topped off his college career with one of the best seasons ever by a RB. He can do it all and will be an absolute weapon, on par with Bijan Robinson.

My evaluation of Jeanty hasn’t changed much from my initial Big Board. He is clearly the best RB in the class and will be the centerpiece of an NFL offense. This year’s QB class isn’t as strong as last year, and Jeanty is one of the few players that clearly displays an ability to be the top player at his position in the NFL. That is why I have bumped him to the top spot in my rankings.

No. 1 Overall Prospect | Ranked as RB1

Ashton Jeanty leads the 2.0 version of my 2025 Rookie Big Board, as he is clearly the top option at running back this draft cycle. The RB position remains one of the best and deepest in this year’s NFL Draft, but no other option even sniffs the level that Jeanty is on.

Built to be an NFL starting back, Jeanty’s mix of power, speed, and athleticism is unmatched in this year’s draft. It can be tough to not select a quarterback to start off a SuperFlex draft, but Jeanty is just that special of a prospect. For landing spots, you can start to pencil him in as early as 6th overall to the Las Vegas Raiders, but the Dallas Cowboys (12th), Denver Broncos (20th), and the Minnesota Vikings (24th) are also in the running.

Keith Ensminger’s Top 50 Rookie Big Board

No. 2 Overall Prospect | Ranked as RB1

Any time a player is spoken about in the same breath as the legendary Barry Sanders, it is more than simply notable. Finishing the season with 2,601 yards and 29 rushing touchdowns, Ashton Jeanty was the Paul Bunyan of the 2024 NCAA football season. For many fans, Ashton Jeanty was college football in 2024. Despite their small school status and often playing games later in the evening, every Boise State game was must-watch TV. Although they came up short in the College Football Playoff, Jeanty did all he could to put his team on his back with a memorable game against a tough Penn State defense.

What more can be said about a player like Jeanty? Given the barren NFL running back landscape, the moment he is drafted, Jeanty will immediately be in the conversation with Breece Hall and Bijan Robinson as the premier backs to roster in dynasty fantasy football. In a draft class full of great collegiate running backs, Jeanty is the first name to know at the top of a very talented 2025 Rookie Big Board.

Tristan Cook’s Pre-NFL Combine Rankings

No. 1 Overall Running Back

The top of my 2025 RB Rankings 3.0 has been the same for a long time. Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty is in a tier of his own after one of the best collegiate seasons in recent history. This year we saw Jeanty rush for nearly 1,000 yards more than the No. 2 player in the country. My analysis of his game hasn’t changed. He runs with both short-area quickness and top-end speed, has incredible contact balance when encountering defenders, and enough power to run over unexpecting tacklers.

However, because Boise State force-fed Jeanty 374 carries this year, one area of his game that we didn’t see as much of was his receiving ability. It’s not to say that he isn’t capable as a receiver, we just didn’t see him utilized that way. I expect Ashton Jeanty to get drafted in the 1st Round of the 2025 NFL Draft and likely as the 1st overall pick in all dynasty formats.

Ashton Jeanty | Draft Outlook

It’s hard to see a scenario where Ashton Jeanty isn’t selected inside the top-20 picks. He could go much higher than that, perhaps even inside the top-10 if a team wants to ensure they get him. For fantasy, the analysis is simple. Jeanty is the first player off the board in all non-SF formats. In SuperFlex, many people will still take him with the 1.01 selection. If you want to be sure to get him, you’ll likely have to take him there.
