The 2025 Quarterback Rankings 2.0 | Polarizing Prospects You Need to Know

Updated QB Rankings for the 2025 NFL Draft by @THETristanCook are here! See who Tristan believes can lead our dynasties in the future—and who can't. Don't miss these Top 12 Quarterbacks to know!
This entry is part 1 of 4 in the series Tristan Cook's 2025 NFL Draft Positional Rankings 2.0

The 2025 quarterback class offers NFL teams (and dynasty managers) a wide variety of types of quarterback prospects from which to choose. Do you prefer a more traditional, pocket passer? This class has that. Do you like playmakers? This class also has that. A dynamic runner? Got that too. Gunslinger? Yep. What about a former 5-star, no. 1 overall recruit? Or a 0-star recruit that worked his way up from the FCS to the top of the FBS? Yep, these 2025 Quarterback Rankings have both of those too.

NOTE: These rankings are a living thing. They have changed since the start of the season and will eb and flow all the way up to the 2025 season.

Top 12 Quarterback Rankings | The 2025 NFL Draft Class

TIER 1 | 2025 Quarterback Rankings

QB1 | Shedeur Sanders | Colorado | 6’2” | 215 lbs. | Previously QB1

Shedeur Sanders entered the 2024 season as the top ranked quarterback in my 2025 Quarterback Rankings and nothing has changed. Despite leading the Colorado Buffaloes to one of their best seasons in recent history, Sanders is the most polarizing quarterback in this class. His detractors often point to how long he holds onto the ball and subsequently, the high number of sacks he takes. However, I don’t always view this as a bad thing. Sanders has an innate ability to extend and make big plays for his team.

Sanders has a strong arm, capable of making any throw. His accuracy is elite; both with ball placement on tight-window throws and on deep passes. His athleticism isn’t overwhelming but he’s mobile enough to use his legs when needed and extend plays and run when needed. I have Shedeur Sanders as my QB1 in a tier of his own.

TIER 2 | 2025 Quarterback Rankings

QB2 | Cam Ward | Miami | 6’2” | 223 lbs. | Previously QB3

The next quarterback on my list, Cam Ward, experienced a meteoric rise from Division III Incarnate Word to a Heisman hopeful and probable top-10 NFL Draft selection. Ward is firmly the QB2 in my 2025 Quarterback Rankings, but overall, the class isn’t shaping up to be as good as I had hoped. Like Sanders above him, Cam Ward has a strong arm and can throw from a variety of arm angles and platforms. While he has improved, his biggest knock is still a lack of consistency.

For Cam Ward, his QB2 ranking has just as much to do with his strong play in 2024 as it does with the lackluster seasons by many of the other top QB prospects. Ward has led the Miami Hurricanes to an 11-1 record and the 2nd-most passing yards in the country. If I knew he would consistently play up to his potential, I’d have Cam Ward as my QB1.

TIER 3 | 2025 Quarterback Rankings

QB3 | Carson Beck | Georgia | 6’4” | 220 lbs. | Previously QB4

Somehow, Georgia’s Carson Beck has risen one spot in my 2025 Quarterback Rankings, despite struggling during multiple games this year. This largely is due to most of the QB prospects sliding back a bit. It was a bit of a surprise when Beck decided to return to Georgia for the 2024 season instead of entering the draft. The best reasoning was that he could potentially be the first quarterback taken in 2025 rather than hoping to be a first-round pick. Early on this year, that looked like a great decision. But since the end of the first half against Alabama, Beck hasn’t looked quite like the player we’re used to seeing.

Carson Beck is the most prototypical pocket passing quarterback in this class. He struggles at times when forced to move outside the pocket and make throws out of structure. His arm strength is sufficient for the NFL but I would not say he has a particularly strong arm. My concern with Beck is that he doesn’t have any elite tools and has a lower ceiling than the rest of the players around him in my rankings.

QB4 | Jalen Milroe | Alabama | 6’2” | 225 lbs. | Previously QB4

All of the quarterbacks in Tier 3 could become 1st Round NFL Draft selections. However, it also wouldn’t surprise me if they all slid into the middle of Day 2. None of the QBs in this tier have as many unanswered questions as Jalen Milroe. There is no doubting Milroe’s dynamic ability as a rusher of the football. Week after week, he makes defenses look slow and silly trying to tackle him. However, my concern with Milroe is, and has always been, if he possesses enough talent as a thrower of the football.

We have seen more and more quarterback prospects enter the NFL, who are dynamic runners, but leave something to be desired when they drop back to pass. The question for me is if Jalen Milroe is a good enough runner to outweigh the growing pains that he will face throwing the ball in the NFL. To date, when he has been forced to beat teams with his arm rather than his legs, he has struggled. For that reason, I have him firmly in Tier 3 of my 2025 Quarterback Rankings and expect him to be drafted late in the first round or early in the second round of the NFL Draft.

QB5 | Garrett Nussmeier | LSU | 6’2” | 200 lbs. | Previously QB7

One of my biggest risers at the QB position is Garrett Nussmeier. After the departure of reigning Heisman winner Jaylen Daniels, Garrett Nussmeier took the reins to the LSU offense and hasn’t looked back. Despite being on the smaller side, Nussmeier possesses one of the stronger arms in this class. It’s easy to see why he’s rising up draft boards and even getting some 1st Round buzz.

The two biggest concerns I have with Nussmeier are his size and inexperience. We have not seen many quarterbacks come into the NFL below the 200 pound threshold, so I will be eager to see what he weighs in at, should he declare. There are some serious questions whether or not Nussmeier will end up declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft or not.

QB6 | Quinn Ewers | Texas | 6’2” | 210 lbs. | Previously QB2

From one of my biggest risers, we go to one of my biggest fallers in the class, Quinn Ewers. Despite missing some time, Ewers has played the majority of the season for the Longhorns. Unfortueately, his durability is still my chief concern. However, it is not my only concern. Whenever you’re vying to be one of the first quarterbacks taken in the NFL Draft, getting benched during a game is not an ideal situation. But, that’s exactly what happened to Quinn Ewers against Georgia.

He handled the very brief benching quite well and bounced back to the tune of 12 TDs to only 2 INTs in the 4 games afterward. Ewers has a side-arm delivery that generates good velocity on throws, but is capable of putting touch on passes, when needed. One area that I’d like to see Ewers develop is the mental side of the game. I believe he has the physical talent to play at the NFL level.

But, what hurts Ewers the most is when he’s overthinking on the field rather than trusting his eyes and letting the ball fly. He could still easily end up being a 1st Round NFL Draft pick if he plays well down the stretch. He also could end up returning for one more year of college, either at Texas or potentially elsewhere through the transfer portal.

TIER 4 | 2025 Quarterback Rankings

QB7 | Jaxson Dart | Ole Miss | 6’2” | 225 lbs. | Previously QB6

The next player quarterback in 2025 Quarterback Rankings, Jaxson Dart, has seen a resurgence in his draft stock this year. As a prospect, Dart has solid arm strength, is capable of making off-platform throws, shows good accuracy and anticipation, and possesses above-average athleticism. I think Jaxson Dart could wind up hearing his name called on the second night of the NFL Draft. In the right system he could be a solid starter.

QB8 | Drew Allar | Penn State | 6’5” | 238 lbs. | Previously QB8

Drew Allar is another player that has seen his draft stock rebound after a disappointing 2023 season. He didn’t play particularly terribly last year, but he didn’t have the breakout that many people were expecting and he struggled with his accuracy. At 6’5”, he has prototypical NFL size with a very strong arm. It allows him to attack defenses anywhere on the field. Allar is also more athletic than you’d expect, possessing the ability to extend plays with his legs, when needed. He is another player that, if he declares, wouldn’t surprise me to be drafted on Day 2 of the NFL Draft.

QB9 | Cade Klubnik | Clemson | 6’2” | 210 lbs. | Previously QB10

Cade Klubnik is a former 5-star recruit that hasn’t quite lived up to the lofty expectations set upon him. However, he looks like he might be finally putting it all together for Clemson. He has a good arm, can throw off platform, places the ball where his receivers have the best chance to make a play, and will surprise you with this athleticism. The question with Klubnik (and the other two in this tier) is if he’s going to return for another season or head to the NFL. I think he could be a Day 2 pick if he declares but may benefit more from returning for one more year.

TIER 5 | 2025 Quarterback Rankings

QB10 | Dillon Gabriel | Oregon | 6’0” | 200 lbs. | Previously Not Ranked

QB11 | Kyle McCord | Syracuse | 6’3” | 220 lbs. | Previously QB12

QB12 | Jalon Daniels | Kansas | 6’0” | 220 lbs. | Previously QB14

As always, the important thing to remember is that these 2025 Quarterback Rankings are fluid. They have changed since the start of the season and will change again before the end. I will post another update to these rankings during the pre-draft process.
