One thing to keep in mind when making your running back start/sit decisions; it will ALWAYS depend on who your other options are. Don’t take the players below out of (or put them into) your lineup unless the alternatives are worth it.
NOTE: Rankings are sourced from FantasyPros expert consensus expert rankings (ECR) and our terminology is for a 12-team PPR league. So, saying RB2 means top 24, or RB1 means top 12, etc.

RUNNING BACK START/sit
David Montgomery | Detroit Lions | RB 18
Week 10 Stats | RB 17 | FPts 12.6 | Att 12 | Yds 32 | TD 1 | Tgts 2 | Confidence 85%
I understand that David Montgomery has been producing below fantasy managers expectations lately. However, Montgomery has scored double-digit fantasy points in all but one game this season. Furthermore, Montgomery has scored a touchdown in all but two games this season.
In Week 11, Montgomery gets a matchup against an awful Jacksonville Jaguars defense. Per Fantasy Points Data, their defense has allowed the 3rd-most points per game to opposing running backs. Jacksonville has allowed an RB1 finish for Saquon Barkley and an RB3 finish to Josh Jacobs over the past 3 weeks. Start Montgomery with confidence.
RUNNING BACK START/sit
Nick Chubb | Cleveland Browns | RB23
Week 10 Stats | RB 19 | FPts 4.5 | Att 15 | Yds 39 | Tgts 1 | Confidence 70%
For all those fantasy managers who have been holding onto Nick Chubb for a breakout week—that week has come. Fresh off a bye week, Nick Chubb gets the New Orleans Saints. According to Brad Custer’s Positional Matchup Article, Chubb has the 3rd-most favorable matchup among running backs.
Since Week 5, New Orleans has not allowed their opponents’ running back to finish below RB14. In those weeks, there were 2 RB1 and 2 RB5 finishes. This is the opportunity that fantasy managers have been waiting for. Fire up Chubb in your starting lineups.
RUNNING BACK START/sit
Audric Estime | Denver Broncos | RB 29
Week 10 Stats | RB 43 | FPts 5.3 | Att 14 | Yds 53 | Tgts 0 | Confidence 55%
If you need a running back option at your flex position, consider Audric Estime. Estime led all Broncos running backs with a 45% snap share. Estime has gained the confidence of Sean Payton to take over the lead running back duties.
Unfortunately, Estime has not provided any usage in the passing game, so you will be hoping for a touchdown and pure workload volume. The Falcons have allowed 15-plus fantasy points to 6 running backs over the last 4 weeks.
RUNNING BACK start/SIT
Javonte Williams | Denver Broncos | RB 35
Week 10 Stats | RB 48 | FPts 2.7 | Att 1 | Yds 1 | Tgts 2 | Confidence 25%
Williams returns to the sit column for the second-straight week. Williams’ snap share has decreased weekly since Week 6, and he finished Week 10 with only one carry. Williams’ only hope for fantasy relevance is through the passing game where he will also have to contend with Jaleel McLaughlin for touches.
The starting role is no longer Williams’ and rightfully so. Entering Week 11, Williams averaged just 3.8 yards per carry, so moving forward with Estime would not shock anyone. At this point, Williams is almost impossible to start.
RUNNING BACK start/SIT
Travis Etienne Jr. | Jacksonville Jaguars | RB 24
Week 10 Stats | RB 68 | FPts 5.3 | Att 11 | Yds 44 | Tgts 1 | Confidence 45%
Let’s face it: the Jacksonville Jaguars offense is a mess. Trevor Lawrence will miss his second-straight game, and under Mac Jones, the offense scored only 7 points on 143 total yards in Week 10 against Minnesota. Etienne Jr. has not produced double-digit fantasy points since Week 5.
Week 11 doesn’t get any easier for Jacksonville as they travel to Detroit to battle the Lions. The Lions’ defense has allowed the 4th-fewest rushing yards to opposing running backs and fresh off of holding Joe Mixon to his 2nd-lowest rushing total of the season.
SPOTLIGHT | RUNNING BACK start/SIT
James Cook | Buffalo Bills | RB 16
Week 10 Stats | RB 9 | FPts 15.0 | Att 19 | Yds 80 | TD 1 | Tgts 3 | Confidence 55%
I understand that you may be limited on options with four teams on a bye, and sitting Cook may not be an option. However, James Cook has a brutal matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. Kansas City has allowed the fewest total rushing yards and fantasy PPG to opposing backs.
The most rushing yards allowed to a running back in a game this season was 58 to Jordan Mason while facing stud running backs such as Derrick Henry, Alvin Kamara, Bijan Robinson, and J.K. Dobbins. Your expectations for Cook need to be lowered.
