Nerds! The Dynasty Nerds writers are here to provide you with weekly start/sit advice all season long. We will be making our recommendations based on weekly consensus PPR rankings. Here is the Week 8 Wide Receiver Start/Sit from Senior Nerd Tristan Cook.
One thing to keep in mind when making your wide receiver start/sit decisions; it will ALWAYS depend on who your other options are. Don’t take the players below out of (or put them into) your lineup unless the alternatives are worth it.
NOTE: Rankings are sourced from FantasyPros expert consensus expert rankings (ECR) and our terminology is for a 12-team PPR league. So, saying WR2 means top 24, or WR1 means top 12, etc.

WIDE RECEIVER START/sit
Trey Palmer | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | WR 67
Week 7 Stats | WR 84 | FPts 2.6 | Tgts 3 | Rec 1 | Yds 16 | Confidence 90%
After injuries to Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay’s passing offense is in a world of hurt. This article has long focused on finding opportunities and there may not be a wide receiver in the NFL this week with a bigger opportunity than Trey Palmer. While Palmer has not been very involved in this offense, I expect a massive shift. Someone is going to need to pick up the slack if the Bucs are going to beat the Falcons this week. Palmer should easily find himself in the WR3 range, or better.
Xavier Legette | Carolina Panthers | WR 55
Week 7 Stats | WR 79 | FPts 0.9 | Tgts 3 | Rec 2 | Yds 3 | Confidence 75%
Similar to Palmer, Carolina’s Xavier Legette has a wonderful opportunity to shine in Week 8 due to injuries to Diontae Johnson and Adam Thielen. Legette had a big game in Week 4 against the Bengals, catching 6 passes for 66 yards and a score on 10 targets. Outside of that game, Legette has been quiet. However, that is set to change this week.
The main difference between Legette and the aforementioned Palmer is the tougher matchup for Carolina. The Denver Broncos have surrendered the fifth-fewest passing yards per game. I am plugging Legette in for Diontae Johnson in several leagues and you should have the confidence to do so as well.
Courtland Sutton | Denver Broncos | WR 37
Week 7 Stats | WR 110 | Confidence 75%
Courtland Sutton has been an enigma this year. When the stars have seemingly been aligned for a big week for Sutton, he’s come up short. Against a porous Saints defense last week, Sutton laid an egg. This week he faces a below-average pass defense in the Carolina Panthers.
Prior to his dud, Sutton had been targeted at least five times in all but one game. This call is a bit risky, but I believe that Denver will focus on getting Sutton the ball this week. I would start Courtland Sutton over all of my “sits” this week.
WIDE RECEIVER start/SIT
Calvin Ridley | Tennessee Titans | WR 36
Week 7 Stats | WR 47 | FPts 7.2 | Tgts 9 | Rec 4 | Yds 42 | Confidence 10%
My first sit for Week 8 is becoming a familiar name for this article. As I’ve mentioned before, opportunity is the main thing I look to attack. Calvin Ridley has a great opportunity for production, but that alone isn’t enough to outweigh the disaster that is the Tennessee passing attack.
The Titans are averaging less than 150 passing yards per game this year. The targets may technically be there for Calvin Ridley, but not all targets are created equally. Until this offense starts clicking, keep Ridley out of your lineup.
Keenan Allen | Chicago Bears | WR 33
Week 7 Stats | BYE Week | Confidence 15%
After a big opening week with the Bears, Keenan Allen has struggled. He missed a couple of games with a heel injury early in the season but has been on the field since Week 4. During that span, he has only tallied 93 receiving yards.
The Bears face off with the Commanders this week, who are a middle-of-the-road pass defense in yards per game. Until we see something closer to the first game, Keenan Allen will be on my bench. We may be at the point where Allen only is worth starting in emergency situations.
Marvin Harrison Jr. | Arizona Cardinals | WR 23
Week 7 Stats | WR 57 | FPts 5.1 | Tgts 6 | Rec 3 | Yds 21 | Confidence 15%
My final sit for Week 8 is the underwhelming rookie, Marvin Harrison Jr. He had a monster game all the way back in Week 2 but has stumbled over the past 3 weeks. While part of the struggle can be attributed to injury (he suffered a concussion in Week 6 and is on the injury report this week with a knee injury), Harrison holds some of the blame himself.
This week, he’s facing the Miami Dolphins defense who is allowing the fewest passing yards in the NFL. I don’t see Marvin Harrison producing as a top 24 receiver. I would be wary of using him in any daily fantasy lineup or my dynasty team if I have other options.
