Wide Receiver START/SIT Advice: Week 7 of THE SLANT PATTERN

Amari Cooper is a Bill! Davante Adams is a Jet! The wide receiver landscape has seen major changes. Thankfully, @THEtristancook is here to help you navigate your WR start/sit decisions for Week 7!

Nerds! The Dynasty Nerds writers are here to provide you with weekly start/sit advice all season long. We will be making our recommendations based on weekly consensus PPR rankings. Here is the Week 7 Wide Receiver Start/Sit from senior writer Tristan Cook.

One thing to keep in mind when making your wide receiver start/sit decisions; it will ALWAYS depend on who your other options are. Don’t take the players below out of (or put them into) your lineup unless the alternatives are worth it.

NOTE: Rankings are sourced from FantasyPros expert consensus expert rankings (ECR) and our terminology is for a 12-team PPR league. So, saying WR2 means top 24, or WR1 means top 12, etc.

WIDE RECEIVER START/sit

Jerry Jeudy | Cleveland Browns | WR 44

Week 6 Stats | WR 75 | FPts 4.5 | Tgts 3 | Rec 1 | Yds 35 | Confidence 80%

If you’re a regular reader of this article, you know that the main thing that I look for in my wide receiver start/sit candidates is opportunity. There may not be a player in the entire league that has a bigger opportunity this week than Jerry Jeudy. After the trade of Amari Cooper, the focal point of the Cleveland passing attack, by default, is Jeudy.

He hasn’t been particularly good this season, but brighter days are ahead. Even Jeudy acknowledged that his role is set to increase this week. The only concern I have is that the Browns’ offense has looked anemic for most of the year. The matchup with Cincinnati isn’t worrisome, so I feel good about rolling out Jerry Jeudy against the Bengals.

Christian Kirk | Jacksonville Jaguars | WR 39

Week 6 Stats | WR 52 | FPts 6.9 | Tgts 6 | Rec 3 | Yds 39 | Confidence 75%

My next start, Christian Kirk, has been a bit of an enigma so far in 2024. To be fair to him, the entire Jacksonville Jaguars’ offense has been hard to predict. After an embarrassing loss to the Chicago Bears in London last week, the Jags have stayed in England and will “host” the Patriots. The Bears held Christian Kirk and Co. to his worst performance since the opening week.

Mercifully, the matchup with New England is much softer. The Patriots are a bottom-10 pass defense, as opposed to the Chicago squad that is Top 5. I expect to see the heavily-targeted version of Christian Kirk that we saw earlier this season. I’m firing him up with confidence.

DeMario Douglas | New England Patriots | WR 37

Week 6 Stats | WR 8 | FPts 21.2 | Tgts 9 | Rec 6 | Yds 92 | TDs 1 | Confidence 75%

The other side of the London game is where you’ll find my third start, DeMario Douglas. He has been a pleasant surprise for the Patriots on an otherwise disappointing offense. Douglas was quiet in the first two weeks of the season, but has seen nine targets in three of the last four games.

The New England offense looked better last week in rookie Drake Maye’s first start, and the Jags are allowing a league-worst 276.7 passing yards per game. I would start DeMario Douglas over either of my two sits. Get him in your lineup for Week 7!

Garrett Wilson | New York Jets | WR 21

Week 6 Stats | WR 2 | FPts 24.7 | Tgts 10 | Rec 8 | Yds 107 | TDs 1 | Confidence 95%

My final start of Week 7 feels like a no-brainer. Garrett Wilson has dominated this season, but after the acquisition of Davante Adams, there seems to be some apprehension. I understand that there will be some reshuffling of the wide receiver hierarchy for the Jets, but dropping Wilson to a low-end WR2 is an overreaction.

We’ll see how the trade impacts the offense over the next few weeks. But, I expect the receivers lower in the depth chart to feel the impact—not Garrett Wilson. If you’re concerned about Wilson’s production with Adams, don’t be. He’s still a WR1 and should be in your lineup every single week.

WIDE RECEIVER start/SIT

Amari Cooper | Buffalo Bills | WR 34

Week 6 Stats | WR 48 | FPts 8.2 | Tgts 6 | Rec 4 | Yds 42 | Confidence 10%

My first sit this week highlights the other side of the aforementioned Amari Cooper trade. The reasoning here is simple and straightforward: this trade has created an unnecessarily large amount of uncertainty. We do not know what Cooper’s role will be with Buffalo in a short week, after a trade.

I expect him to be a big part of this passing offense, but this is not the week to play him. The matchup is the worst one possible. The Tennessee Titans are allowing a meager 137.0 passing yards per game. Don’t get caught up in the excitement of the trade. Sit Amari Cooper.

George Pickens | Pittsburgh Steelers | WR 35

Week 5 Stats | WR T47 | FPts 8.3 | Tgts 8 | Rec 3 | Yds 43 | Confidence 15%

Amari Cooper’s matchup this week is the worst in the NFL, but George Pickens’ is not much better. My last sit for Week 7 is largely due to the tough matchup with the Jets and the expected matchup with Sauce Gardner. The Jets’ 148.8 passing yards allowed per week is the 2nd-best mark in the league. But, that wasn’t enough to get him out of my lineup.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are averaging a mere 166.8 passing yards per game, 5th-worst in the NFL. They apparently are making the change to Russell Wilson at quarterback. The move isn’t official, but Pickens indicated that Wilson would be the starter. Sadly, that doesn’t inspire enough confidence to make me put him in my lineup.

That’s it for Week 7 wide receiver start/sit advice, feel free to reach out to me on Twitter (x) (@THEtristancook) if you have any specific questions about who I would start.
