WIDE RECEIVER Start/Sit Advice: THE SLANT PATTERN for Week 5

There’s a GIANT hole at WR in New York with Malik Nabers OUT. Don’t shrink to the competition! Senior Nerd @THETristanCook presents his top wide receiver starts and sits for Week 5!

Nerds! The Dynasty Nerds writers are here to provide you with weekly start/sit advice all season long. We will be making our recommendations based on weekly consensus PPR rankings. Here are the wide receiver starts and sits from senior writer Tristan Cook.

QB | RB | WR | TE | IDP

One thing to keep in mind when making your start/sit decisions; it will ALWAYS depend on who your other options are. Don’t take the players below out of (or put them into) your lineup unless the alternatives are worth it.

NOTE: Rankings are sourced from FantasyPros expert consensus expert rankings (ECR) and our terminology is for a 12-team PPR league. So, saying WR2 means top 24, or TE1 means top 12, etc.

WIDE RECEIVER STARTS

Wan’Dale Robinson | New York Giants | WR 31

Week 4 Stats | WR 17 | FPts 18.1 | Tgts 14 | Rec 11 | Yds 71 | TDs 0 | Confidence 90%

As with every week, we are targeting players with opportunities for a large target share. There may not be anyone in the NFL that sees more targets in Week 5 than Wan’Dale Robinson. With the news that Malik Nabers is going to miss the game, Daniel Jones and the New York Giants will have to look to the other receivers to pick up the slack.

Robinson received 14 targets last week, trailing only Nico Collins and Malik Nabers (15 each) for tops in the league. That means that Nabers and Robinson combined to be targeted on 29 of Daniel Jones’ 40 pass attempts. Obviously I’m not predicting that Wan’Dale Robinson will be targeted 29 times this week against Seattle. However, he should be peppered with targets and should be in all of your lineups!

Darius Slayton | New York Giants | WR 66

Week 4 Stats | WR 49 | FPts 8.6 | Tgts 3 | Rec 5 | Yds 56 | TDs 1 | Confidence 75%

If you’re struggling to find a replacement for the aforementioned Malik Nabers (or one of the players on bye), you could do a lot worse than Darius Slayton. He has been a surprisingly solid option over the years for this New York passing offense, especially when they are shorthanded.

I’m not expecting the kind of target share for Slayton as I am for Robinson, but I think Darius Slayton should see a nice boost in opportunity and could end as a WR3 on the week.

Courtland Sutton | Denver Broncos | WR 34

Week 4 Stats | WR 29 | FPts 15.0 | Tgts 9 | Rec 3 | Yds 60 | TDs 1 | Confidence 85%

If you’re wary about trusting Courtland Sutton and the Broncos’ passing attack, I get it. They looked awful last week against the Jets. In one of the funnier stat lines you’ll see, Bo Nix completed 12 of 25 passes for 60 yards and a touchdown. Courtland Sutton caught 3 of those passes for 60 yards and the score. That means that the other 9 completions for Nix totaled exactly 0 yards.

Anyway, this article aims to highlight players that have the best opportunity for fantasy production, and Sutton has exactly that. He received 12, 4, 11, and 9 targets through the first 4 weeks, respectively. Outside of Week 2 (when I unfortunately had him as a start), Sutton has been the focal point of the passing attack for Denver. I expect more of the same this week against the Las Vegas Raiders. Fire up Courtland Sutton with confidence!

WIDE RECEIVER SITS

Tyreek Hill | Miami Dolphins | WR 24

Week 4 Stats | WR 51 | FPts 7.0 | Tgts 7 | Rec 4 | Yds 23 | TDs 0 | Confidence 95%

This is quickly becoming the “sit Tyreek Hill” article. He was a sit last week, and in Week 3, and finished well outside the top-36 receivers in both instances. Hill is here once again as a declaration that he shouldn’t be started on any team until the quarterback situation in Miami improves.

I know that he’s one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. He will always have the potential to have a big week with one play, but putting him in your lineup week after week is not helping you win matchups. It’s time to sit Tyreek Hill until further notice.

Keenan Allen | Chicago Bears | WR 35

Week 4 Stats | WR 100+ | FPts 1.9 | Tgts 3 | Rec 1 | Yds 9 | TDs 0 I Confidence 80%

The next player I’m trying to get out of all of my lineups is Keenan Allen. He faces the Carolina Panthers this week, who have an average pass defense. I’m not overly concerned because of the matchup, but I am concerned because of the lack of opportunity.

Allen was only targeted three times last week. That was the lowest on his team. But beyond that, the Bears only threw the ball 23 times. Until this offense progresses a bit, the only receiver worth starting every week is D.J. Moore.

WIDE RECEIVER FADE

Jakobi Meyers | Las Vegas Raiders | WR 36

Week 4 Stats | WR 48 | FPts 9.9 | Tgts 10 | Rec 5 | Yds 49 | TDs 0 | Confidence 90%

The last player on my list is a bit of a contradiction from what I have been suggesting to date. In fact, Jakobi Meyers was on the “start” side of this article last week. With Davante Adams likely set to miss this game, you’d think the opportunity for Meyers to feast would be there. However, the reason for my apprehension is Patrick Surtain II and the stout Denver defense.

Through the opening month of the season, they are allowing the third-fewest passing yards, third-fewest points, and second-fewest total yards. Furthermore, the Raiders have not been a very dynamic offense and don’t exactly look to be making strides in that department. I expect this game to be one of the lowest scoring affairs on the week. I am staying away from Jakobi Meyers in any lineup, if at all possible.

That’s it for Week 5, feel free to reach out to me on Twitter (x) (@THEtristancook) if you have any specific questions about who I would start.
