Tyreek Hill was traded from the Chiefs to the Dolphins ahead of the season. He went from one lethal passing attack to an even more lethal passing attack. He formed a dynamic two-headed monster wide receiver duo on the Miami Dolphins with Jaylen Waddle. Hill proved to the entire NFL that he was far better than the Chiefs or Patrick Mahomes let on.
2022 Season Recap
Tyreek Hill was shockingly traded from the Kansas City Chiefs to the Miami Dolphins in the 2022 offseason. It was a surprise that not many saw coming. The Dolphins surrounded their young quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, with an elite receiver that could help uplift the whole offense. Hill certainly did just that in head coach Mike McDaniel’s first season at the helm. Hill had the best season of his career by far. He had a better season than any year with Patrick Mahomes. Over 17 games, Hill saw 170 targets and caught 119 for 1,710 yards and seven touchdowns. Those first three numbers were all easily career highs. Then, he added 32 rushing yards and a touchdown over seven attempts. Hill was an All-Pro First Team Pro Bowler and helped lead the Dolphins to the playoffs.
He was a top-three fantasy wide receiver and led many dynasty teams to rings. Looking at the advanced metrics, Hill was top-five in target rate, target share, expected points per game, yards after catch, yards per route run, yards per team pass attempt, and many more. It would take an article to list how many categories Hill was elite in. The receiver will be hard-pressed to repeat his career season in his upcoming age-29 season.
2023 Season Projections
This season, the Dolphins should see better health from Tagovailoa. He’s a year removed from the concussions. They have a better offensive line and rushing attack. Coach McDaniel has developed his offense even more; he knows how to use Hill, Waddle, and company to gain the most yards and points.
However, it’s nigh impossible for Hill to repeat his heroic 2022 season. I mean, 1,710 yards is extremely tough to replicate, as is catching 70% of your targets as a deep threat. That’s why I have him taking a slight step back from what he did last year. He’s still plenty on pace for a top-five finish at wide receiver. However, you can’t imagine that Hill can keep up that kind of production all season without some more help in other facets of the game. Of course, with better quarterback play and health from Tagovailoa, perhaps Hill could even improve. After all, Hill had to navigate three quarterbacks last year instead of just one.
Long-Term Dynasty Outlook
Tyreek Hill said he has just three or so years left in the NFL. However, three years is an eternity. Who knows what Hill wants to do in two years or next offseason? That’s true for every NFL player. Hill has made enough money to never work again, but it’s hard to hang up your cleats in the middle of your prime. Hill will be at age 32 in three years and could certainly be a force on the grass. After all, even if he loses some speed, he’s still faster than most NFL players.
That’s why he’s a safe and fine player to roster in a dynasty. If you have him, you’re all in to win right now. That’s true for next season, too. That’s fine. Hill won’t hurt you. He won’t retire that soon. The Dolphins will continue to be a prolific passing offense. Hill will likely cost you two firsts because there aren’t more than two or three players who can replicate what he does. However, if you can pair him with a player like Justin Jefferson, CMC, Ja’Marr Chase, or another elite player. Well, good luck to your league. Oh, and if you’re rebuilding now, sell Hill for two firsts. Or sell him for a first and multiple seconds. Don’t hold him and cost yourself an early draft pick.
