Jake Oliver’s 2nd and 3rd Round NFL Mock Draft

@DarthDbacks takes a look at the second and third round of the 2023 NFL Draft and shares his NFL Mock Draft with his predictions.

The NFL is the best time of the off-season for NFL fans. It’s filled with hope, excitement, and celebration of seeing hundreds of young men achieve their life dream. They’ve worked their whole life to hear their name called during this three-day fest. Fans have waited a whole year to boo Commissioner Roger Goodell relentlessly to his face. It’s a beautiful time for all to see. At least, until your team doesn’t take the guy you wanted in the 2023 NFL Draft. That can create a lot of angst, but sometimes it pays off. Other times, it can go down horribly like when the Raiders took Clelin Ferrel a few years ago. This year’s NFL draft is going to be hard to decide for each team when doing your own NFL Mock Draft. There’s just so much talent and such deep positions.

This year’s 2023 NFL Draft is taking place on Thursday, April 27th at 8 p.m. EST. Rounds Two and Three will happen on Friday, April 28th, starting at 7 p.m. EST. Rounds Four through Seven will take place all day long on Saturday, April 29th. The NFL is holding the draft in Kansas City, the home of the Super Bowl-winning Chiefs. Don’t be shocked if you see hundreds of thousands of fans celebrating the NFL fest.

This weekend, 259 men will learn where their future homes will be in the NFL. Let’s start off my NFL mock draft with Round One!

Teams without a First-Round pick: 49ers, Dolphins, Broncos, Rams, and Browns. Please NOTE, I will not be including trades, but am including where I think players ultimately land regardless of where picked.

Second Round

2.32 | Steelers via Bears: Anton Harrison, Tackle, Oklahoma

2.33 | Texans: Calijah Kancey, Defensive Tackle, Pittsburgh

2.34 | Cardinals: Adetomiwa Adebawore, Edge, Northwestern

2.35 | Colts: Dawand Jones, Tackle, Ohio State

2.36 | Rams: O’Cyrus Torrence, Guard, Florida

2.37 | Seahawks via Broncos: Steve Avila, Guard, TCU

2.38 | Raiders: Cam Smith, Cornerback, South Carolina

2.39 | Panthers: Josh Downs, Wide Receiver, UNC

Downs is a superb wide receiver that can truly help the Panthers in a multitude of ways, such as being a growing wide receiver that can learn the NFL with Bryce Young. He’s a talented slot wide receiver that can work all three levels and knows how to shake loose defensive backs and make tough catches. He’d be an excellent value for an early second-round rookie pick.

2.40 | Saints: Will McDonald IV, Edge, Iowa State

2.41 | Titans: Cody Mauch, Tackle, North Dakota State

2.42 | Packers via Jets via Browns: Darnell Washington, Tight End Georgia

The Packers get their tight end of the future, who can help block right away. He’s going to be a huge safety net and weapon in the endzone for new quarterback Jordan Love. Yet, because he’s a tight end, Darnell isn’t worth taking before the third round in rookie drafts.

2.43 | Jets: Jack Campbell, Linebacker, Iowa

2.44 | Falcons: Keion White, Edge Rusher, Georgia Tech

2.45 | Packers: BJ Ojulari, Edge Rusher, LSU

2.46 | Patriots: Tyrique Stevenson, Cornerback, Miami

2.47 | Commanders: John Michael Schmitz, Center, Minnestoa

2.48 | Lions: Jonathan Mingo, Wide Receiver, Ole Miss

2.49 | Steelers: Trenton Simpson, Linebacker, Clemson

2.50 | Buccaneers: Hendon Hooker, Quarterback, Tennessee

Hooker would be well-served by being taken by Tampa Bay. He’s able to sit behind Baker Mayfield and learn and develop while recovering from his torn ACL. Hooker would be put into an offense with a strong supporting cast and the time to learn how an NFL offense works. He’s worth a second-round rookie pick.

2.51 | Dolphins: Sam LaPorta, Tight End, Iowa

2.52 | Seahawks: Jalin Hyatt, Wide Receiver, Tennessee

The Seahawks get another speed burner to complement DK Metcalf and work outside as their WR3. He’s got elite potential as a downfield threat and is capable of scoring every time he makes a catch. That’s his only talent, though, so he’s a risky pick unless it’s in the second round.

2.53 | Bears via Ravens: Luke Wypler, Center, Ohio State

2.54 | Chargers: Nick Herbig, Edge Rusher, Wisconsin

2.55 | Lions via Vikings: Tuli Tuipulotu, Edge Rusher, USC

2.56 | Jaguars: DJ Turner, Cornerback, Michigan

2.57 | Giants: Joe Tippmann, Center, Wisconsin

2.58 | Cowboys: Keeanu Benton, Defensive Tackle, Wisconsin

2.59 | Bills: Drew Sanders, Linebacker, Arkansas

2.60 | Bengals: Luke Musgrave, Tight End, Oregon State

Musgrave is a strong and talented tight end with TE1 potential. He could block and start from day one with the Bengals. Serving as the safety net and red zone target brings about tons of points when your quarterback is Joe Burrow. Take him in the late second round of rookie drafts.

2.61 | Bears via 49ers: Matthew Bergeron, Tackle, Syracuse

2.62 | Eagles: Antonio Johnson, Safety, Texas A&U

2.63 | Chiefs: Rashee Rice, Wide Receiver, SMU

Rice would immediately become too expensive in many rookie drafts purely because the Chiefs took him. However, Rice does have plenty of great qualities and a proven track record of performance that if you can snag him in the second round, do it.

Third Round

3.64 | Bears: Isaiah Foskey, Edge Rusher, Notre Dame

3.65 | Texans: Marvin Mims, Wide Receiver, Oklahoma

Mims is a talented and capable wide receiver that can handle all three levels of routes. He’s a strong finisher and deserving of an early second-round rookie pick.

3.66 | Cardinals: Zach Carbonnet, Running Back, UCLA

The Cardinals get their future bell-cow running back. He’ll be used a ton to take the load off of Kyler Murray. Worthy mid to late first-round pick in your dynasty rookie drafts, excellent value.

3.67 | Broncos via Colts: Byron Young, Edge, Tennessee

3.68 | Broncos: Julius Brents, Cornerback, KSU

3.69 | Rams: Kelee Ringo, Cornerback, Georgia

3.70 | Raiders: Nathaniel Dell, Wide Receiver, Houston

Dell will provide some toughness and speed to the team’s wide receiver room. Due to their offense and tough scheme, not sure Dell does much in his rookie year. Look for him at the end of the second round in the dynasty draft.

3.71 | Saints: Michael Wilson, Wide Receiver, Stanford

Wilson is a versatile wide receiver with great height and length. He makes for a solid WR2 complement to the smaller, technique-sound Chris Olave. Worth a third-round rookie pick.

3.72 | Titans: Cedric Tillman, Wide Receiver, Tenessee

Tillman is a tall and strong wide receiver that can handle double teams or a large role. The Titans need an impact receiver, and Tillman could become that with their new quarterback. He’s a great second-round rookie pick.

3.73 | Texans via Browns: Clark Phillips III, Cornerback, Utah

3.74 | Browns via Jets: Siaki Ika, Defensive Tackle, Baylor

3.75 | Falcons: Darius Rush, Cornerback, South Carolina

3.76 | Patriots via Panthers: Tyler Scott, Wide Receiver, Cincinnati

Scott would be a great wide receiver to pair with Young. He’s an athletic and talented wideout with good hands and route-running ability. Scott is worth a second-round rookie draft pick.

3.77 | Rams via Patriots: Daiyan Henley, Linebacker, Washington State

3.78 | Packers: Sydney Brown, Safety, Illinois

3.79 | Colts via Commanders: Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson, Cornerback, TCU

3.80 | Steelers: Jordan Battle, Safety, Alabama

3.81 | Lions: Zacch Pickens, Defensive Tackle, South Carolina

3.82 | Buccaneers: Jammie Robinson, Safety, Florida State

3.83 | Seahawks: Garrett Williams, Cornerback, Syracuse

3.84 | Dolphins: Devon Achane, Running Back, Texas A&M

Achane is almost eerily similar to Mostert and Wilson Jr. He’s an extremely fast and agile runner that has speed for days. Achane would be able to get work in late in the season and start next year. A strong value at the end of the first round in rookie drafts.

3.85 | Chargers: Tucker Kraft, Tight End, South Dakota State

Kraft is Dallas Goedert 2.0. He plays extremely similarly and will develop into a good tight end. O.C. Moore’s scheme demands a strong tight end. Kraft can sit this year and take over starting duties and become a good weapon for Herbert. Take him in the third round of rookie drafts.

3.86 | Ravens: Tank Bigsby, Running Back, Auburn

Tank is a three-down capable running back. He’s a strong runner with good pass-catching ability. Tank is worth a late-first-round rookie pick and would immediately contend for the RB1 job.

3.87 | Vikings: A.T. Perry, Wide Receiver, Wake Forest

Perry is an excellent combination of height, length, and athleticism. He can make tough catches and fits as a future WR2 next to Justin Jefferson, which will allow for some big boom games. A solid pick in the second round of your rookie draft.

3.88 | Jaguars: Luke Schoonmaker, Tight End, Michigan

A solid tight end that will need some development behind Evan Engram. Schoonmaker is the perfect guy to sit for a year and learn. Avoid in rookie drafts, but be sure to snag him off waivers late in the year.

3.89 | Giants: Ji’Ayir Brown, Safety, Penn State

3.90 | Cowboys: Chandler Zavala, Guard, NC State

3.91 | Bills: Gervon Dexter SR., Defensive Tackle, Florida

3.92 | Bengals: Jartavius Martin, Cornerback, Illinois

3.93 | Panthers via 49ers: Derick Hall, Edge Rusher, Auburn

3.94 | Eagles: Blake Freeland, Tackle, BYU

3.95 | Chiefs: Tyler Steen, Tackle, Alabama

Third-Round Compensatory Picks:

3.96 | Cardinals: Riley Moss, Cornerback, Iowa

3.97 | Commanders: K.J. Henry, Edge Rusher, Clemson

3.98 | Browns: Henry To’oTo’o, Linebacker, Alabama

3.99 | 49ers: Carter Warren, Tackle, Pittsburgh

3.100 | Raiders: Nick Saldiveri, Guard, Old Dominion

3.101 | 49ers: Jaylon Jones, Cornerback, Texas A&M

3.102 | 49ers: Zack Kuntz, Tight End, Old Dominion
