Allen Lazard, WR NYJ (A-)
I was going to wait to have Lazard in with an Aaron Rodgers article, but the Packers are taking too long. Lazard signed a four-year deal worth up to $44 million with the New York Jets. The Jets supposedly had Lazard on their list of players to get in, even without Rodgers’ request. Lazard gives an upgrade over Corey Davis, who could be on his way out. Lazard is a great pass catcher and has a nose for the endzone. His blocking will come in handy as the Jets establish the run more in 2023. Lazard’s value truly depends on if Rodgers comes to the team. With Rodgers, you should feel comfortable in a similar flex option he had in 2022 and should be a WR3 in value as long as Rodgers continues to play. If Rodgers’ trades don’t happen, I don’t see a quarterback on the Jets that will help make two pass catchers weekly starters. Depending on the quarterback, Lazard has a high-end WR3 or High-end WR4 in dynasty.
Parris Campbell, WR NYG (B-)
This was a solid signing for the Giants as Campbell joins the team on a one-year, $4.7 million contract. Campbell finally stayed healthy for once and produced 623 yards in 2022. He joins a core that was all injured last year, so I hope this isn’t a “thing” that happens with Giants receivers. His role will be interesting as I could see him as high as the WR2 or potentially not even making the team by September. The Giants are taking in a lot of receivers, so not everyone is going to produce. I’d look to sell Campbell and use him as a trade piece in a bigger trade.
Darius Slayton, WR NYG (C-)
This one needs to be clarified; why did the Giants decide to give Slayton a two-year deal worth up to $12 million? He was rumored to be traded last offseason, so the new agreement may fix the relationship. Slayton has been a decent and consistent receiver for the Giants with three of four seasons with at least 700 yards. He’ll usually put up some big weeks and then disappear for most of the fantasy season. Slayton is the one receiver that is the deep threat, so his role is secured. He is, at best, a WR4 in fantasy and likely a bench option in dynasty that will be hard to trust.
D’onta Foreman, RB CHI (A)
This was a solid deal for the Chicago Bears to sign Foreman to a one-year deal worth up to $3 million. Foreman has returned to life in fantasy after tearing his Achilles early in his career. He produced 914 yards in 2022 and was a solid option in fantasy. Foreman should have a role in this offense that will likely be run-heavy still with Justin Fields at quarterback. He will probably back up Khalil Herbert, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it is more of a split backfield. Foreman is a hard runner that a team will want to get the most out of on the field. He is suitable for a contender to buy low on, but his future value will likely be a year-to-year situation.
Gardner Minshew, QB IND (A+)
Whenever you add the Stache to your team, it’s a major upgrade! I’m joking ever so slightly. This is a good backup for a team that needs a quarterback. Minshew has shown he can step in when needed to have an offense play at a high level. The Colts are likely to draft a quarterback during the 2023 NFL draft. Minshew could have an opportunity early to start a few games until the rookie is ready to go, but that depends on who the Colts draft. Minshew is a good bench quarterback to own in dynasty. He may not get a shot this year, but I bet that Minshew receives an opportunity to start 17 games at some point again in his career.
Braxton Berrios, WR MIA (A)
Miami finally made a great offensive signing this off-season. Berrios is a great return man and a solid slot role receiver. He didn’t live up to the 2021 breakout season he had as he fell behind in targets with the Jets’ new-look offense in 2022. Berrios likely won’t have much more than WR5 value in dynasty since Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle command the targets. He has a sleeper value to buy into, as he could see anywhere from 40 to 50 targets as the underneath receiver for the Dolphins high power passing attack.
Chase Edmonds, RB TBB (C+)
Are we not done with the Edmonds experience? He signed a one-year deal with the Bucs to join Rachaad White in the backfield. Edmonds has passing value over his career, but so does White. Edmonds’ issue is he can’t stay healthy for an offense. He is a borderline bench player in most dynasty formats with some PPR value.
Robert Tonyan, TE CHI (C+)
Tonyan signed a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears. He had that one magical season in 2020 where he caught 11 touchdowns. Tonyan looked different from the player he was before his injury in 2021. The Bears do like to use multiple tight ends, but this is Cole Kmet’s team. Tonyan likely won’t have weekly value, and his dynasty outlook is fading.
Drew Lock, QB SEA and Kyle Allen, QB BUF (B-)
Two backup quarterbacks signed with good offenses. Lock signed a one-year deal with Seattle to be the backup again. Kyle Allen signed with the Buffalo Bills to back up Josh Allen. Both are handcuff dynasty quarterbacks for 2023 and have little dynasty value.
Trayveon Williams, RB CIN (C)
Williams resigned with the Bengals on a one-year deal. He has stuck with the Bengals at the end of their bench for three seasons. He flashed in 2020 slightly and could challenge for the backup role behind Joe Mixon. Williams is likely a waiver guy and could pick up to see what happens.
