2023 1QB Rookie Mock Draft 5.0 – Round 2

It is time to start looking to the 2023 rookie draft. The Dynasty Nerds team is here with 1QB Rookie Mock Draft 5.0.

We are back with Round 2 of our 1QB Mock Draft version 5.0. After the first round produced no quarterbacks, we had three come off the board in Round 2. A new tight end joins the draft, and there is some good value at running back and wide receiver.

You can find Round 1 of the 1QB mock draft HERE. Let’s dive onto Round 2.

1QB Rookie Mock Draft 5.0 – Round 2

2.01 Jalin Hyatt, WR, 6’0″ 175

Tennessee

Hyatt is in Tier 2 and comes off the board as WR5 in the draft. He parlayed a stellar junior season into the Biletnikoff Award as the best wide receiver in college football. Hyatt averaged 18.9 yards per reception and put up 15 touchdowns. He played in a spread offense in college, so he will need to make the transition to an NFL offense. He is a good route runner with good hands and great speed. That is a great set of traits to get at the top of the second round. – @Culture_Coach

2.02 Zay Flowers, WR 5’9″ 182

Boston College

Zay Flowers took the Shrine Bowl by storm, and it wouldn’t shock me if we saw him slip into the first round of the draft. On paper, he looks alright, but on the field, he is where he shines. He’s able to run routes at all levels, which is uncommon for most receivers coming out of college. His size would typically relinquish him to a slot role, but he’s what I call a slot plus; He’ll likely operate out of the slot most of the time, but his versatility means he’ll get the opportunity for outside play as well. – @MonCalFF

2.03 Kayshon Boutte, WR, 6’0″ 190

LSU

I completely understand that his 2022 season looked less impressive than his 2021 season, BUT his 2021 season should more than speak for itself. In the second round, there are no receivers with a higher potential ceiling. I was torn between taking the top tight end in the class or rolling the dice on Boutte. But my enamor for potential helped me go with Boutte. – @domffl

2.04 Bryce Young, QB, 6’0″ 194

Alabama

Quarterbacks are less critical in 1QB leagues… but they aren’t unimportant. It’s still an ugly position in today’s NFL, with not that many guys you can trust as every week starters. Even fewer are true difference-makers. Bryce Young has the potential to be both, so I like the value here in the second round. He’s mobile, accurate, and a savant in the mental aspect of quarterback play, which is incredibly important to me. – @devy2dynastyFR

2.05 Tyjae Spears, RB 5’9″ 204

Tulane

Tyjae Spears has to be the hottest riser coming out of the Senior Bowl. The Tulane running back took full advantage of the week to get himself in front of scouts and media. He had multiple highlight-reel plays on top of looking like the best offensive play there. One concern for Spears is the recovery from his ACL injury, but he displayed he was fully healthy. I talked to one scout in Mobile who said don’t be surprised if Tyjae goes in the first half of the third round of the NFL draft. Capital like that will have dynasty managers selecting him in the first round of rookie drafts. – @DanT_NFL

2.06 Michael Mayer, TE, 6’4″ 265

Notre Dame

At 2.06, I continued my strategy of grabbing some highly ranked position players. Since this is a 1QB league, most of my targets are off the board, but Michael Mayer is falling to 2.06. So far, Mayer is my 14th overall prospect in a Superflex format, so I like the value here in a 1QB league. Mayer is the consensus TE1, displaying great hands and route running. Due to Mayer’s excellent profile, he is the projected 16th overall pick in the NFL Draft. If this happens, Mayer will be a focal point on his NFL team from day one, which is something I’d love to invest in. – @SteveBradshawFF

2.07 Dalton Kincaid, TE, 6’4″ 242

Utah

The 2023 tight end class is one of the better groups outside the running backs. Kincaid is a nice prospect who will surely hear his name called within the first two days of the draft. He is a little slight but has put up some really nice numbers in college. This class feels like a changing of the guard for the tight end position, and I’m happy to scoop up one of the tops guys. – @ReflipeWThenuz

2.08 Kendre Miller, RB, 6’0″ 206

TCU

I was looking forward to seeing how Miller would do against the Michigan defense, but he did get hurt which limited his playing time. Regardless, I’ve seen enough to be shocked that I got Miller this late in a 1QB draft. He’s got excellent vision and body control and is used to staying patient for his blockers to open up a lane. He is a two-down player. If he can grow as a pass-blocker and improve his receiving, he could be more. Still, it’s rare that you can get a guy with nearly 1400 yards and 17 touchdowns this late. He’s worth the risk here. – @DarthDbacks

2.09 CJ Stroud, QB, 6’3″ 218

OSU

Being able to take arguably the QB1 of this class, who projects to be a top 5 pick in the NFL draft… I will take that all day at 2.09. With this being a 1QB draft, I’d take this price easily for Stroud unless you have a top 3 dynasty quarterback. Stroud has consistently shown great accuracy and an ability to make all the throws needed at the pro level. Pair that with his prototypical size and athleticism to make some plays with his legs, and you find a possible franchise quarterback for many years to come. – @FF_TJHernandez

2.10 Marvin Mims, WR, 5’11” 177

Oklahoma

It’s time to hunt value and take the best player available, so Mims is the pick here. He’s another smaller receiver who makes up for it in about every other area of his game. I expect him to run in the 4.4 range with an impressive analytical profile. He’s an early declare with underrated, pro-ready traits. Mims has good hands and is surprisingly successful in contested catch situations. As one of the best deep threats in the class, Mims regularly blew by defenders on film. I would like to see him improve his route running and not rely solely on speed in the NFL. – @FF_Hulsey

2.11 Will Levis, QB, 6’3″ 222

Kentucky

Levis is a near lock for the first round, if not the top ten. Although he’s not a sure thing, it’s a sure thing that he will get a chance to start in the league. That’s all I need at this point. – Ryan Wilhelm

2.12 Israel Abanikanda, RB 5’11” 215

Pitt

Izzy and Kenny McIntosh, the two players I considered here, are runners I’ve banged the drum for this draft season. Draft price is as crucial as draft evaluation, and Abanikanda’s price should not be this low. If this price holds, make sure you capitalize. I have Israel tiered amongst Tank Bigsby, Kendre Miller, and Roschon Johnson, players currently carrying significantly more draft value. With an NFL Combine invite in tow, I think people will be shocked to see how dynamic Abanikanda can be at a prototype size. – @DynastyOasis

That wraps up Round 2. Who was a reach? Who was a value? Let us know what you think. You can find Round 1 HERE, and you can find the Superflex mock draft HERE.
