Week 6 saw some significant injuries across the league. @ReflipeWThenuz is here to help break them down and highlight the next men up.

Each and every week, players across the NFL suffer injuries. This weekly article will explore the injuries that affect your dynasty squads. We will briefly discuss the injured players themselves and the players who stand to benefit. In order to make them easier to follow, we will break down the injuries by division. Without further ado, let us examine the regular season Week 6 injuries and the next men up.

Sky(lar) comes crashing down

Miami quarterback Skylar Thompson was forced from his team’s Week 6 contest with a thumb injury. He was already filling in for injured teammates Tua Tagovailoa and Teddy Bridgewater. This injury forced the Dolphins to insert an unprepared Bridgewater back into the lineup. Teddy served as an emergency backup after just recently clearing the league’s new concussion protocol. Thankfully for the Dolphins, Teddy made it through the game. It also seems Tua is on track to make his return to the lineup in Week 7. Keep an eye out for news about Miami’s trio of injured quarterbacks. This could go several different ways. As of now, it seems that Tua will be back from his scary head injury. His return would provide a boost for all the Miami skill players.

Patriot rookie making a push

New England wide receivers Nelson Agholar and Kendrick Bourne suffered injuries in their team’s Week 6 victory. Both players struggled to find a consistent role in the Patriot’s weekly game plan. Agholar suffered a hamstring injury, while Bourne injured his toe. Their exit cleared the path for a breakout by rookie second-round pick Tyquan Thornton. Moving forward, it will be hard to trust either Agholar or Bourne. The Patriots will likely lean on Thornton, DeVante Parker, and Jakobi Meyers. The good news is neither player appears to have suffered a long-term injury.

Deon gives them the run around

Indianapolis Running Back Deon Jackson suffered a quad injury in his team’s Week 6 victory. Enjoying the best game of his career, Jackson was unfortunately unable to finish this contest. The severity of the injury is unknown at this time. Keep an eye out for news about Jackson’s health. He and fellow running backs Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines are all coming back from injuries. The Colts will turn to Phillip Lindsay if none of these players can suit up. The former Bronco would start until Taylor and company are healthy and ready to go.

Kicking it up in Jacksonville

Jacksonville wide receiver Jamal Agnew suffered a knee injury in his team’s Week 6 loss. Likely only viable in the deepest of return yardage leagues, Agnew’s loss shouldn’t be highly relevant in fantasy and dynast circles. Christian Kirk and Zay Jones are the plays in this receiving corps, with Marvin Jones Jr. providing occasional relevance when available.

Biscuits bails out the Steelers

Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett suffered a concussion in his team’s surprise Week 6 victory. The rookie has been laboring behind one of the worst offensive lines in the league. Pickett has been under constant duress since being inserted into the lineup a couple of weeks ago. The bad news is that Pickett must clear the league’s beefed-up concussion protocols. The good news is that he does not have a history of head injuries in college or otherwise. If he cannot gain clearance, the Steelers will turn back to Week 1 starter Mitchell Trubisky. He would hold down the fort until the rookie could return to action.

Dobbins doesn’t play

Baltimore running back JK Dobbins didn’t play in the second half of his team’s Week 6 loss. There was no indication that the talented runner suffered a new injury. Rather, he felt tightness and discomfort in his knee, so the team held him out as a precaution. Head coach John Harbaugh indicated it could even have something to do with the Met Life turf. This is the same turf that saw Giants receiver Sterling Shepard tear his knee. He was simply jogging down the field earlier this year. Keep an eye on Dobbins’s practice reps this week. The team will likely play it safe with their top running back. If he does miss game action, the Ravens would likely turn to Kenyan Drake as their top option. Gus Edwards could also play into the mix as he is eligible to return from his knee injury suffered last year. This is a fluid situation worth monitoring.

Is the kitchen closed?

Denver quarterback Russell Wilson suffered a possibly significant hamstring injury in his team’s Week 6 loss. The former Super Bowl champion has struggled mightily in his first season in Denver. Wilson finished the game but confirmed the injury in his post-game press conference. He is scheduled for an MRI early this week. He may be unable to suit up on the short week against the Jets. If he cannot play, the Broncos will turn to Brett Rypien. Despite Wilson’s struggles, Rypien would be a downgrade for the Denver skill players across the board. Depending upon the severity of the hamstring injury, Wilson could miss some time. Keep an eye out for the results of Wilson’s MRI.

Can the rookie get a shot in DC?

Washington quarterback Carson Wentz suffered a fractured ring finger on his throwing hand in his team’s Week 6 victory. The former North Dakota State star gutted it out and finished the game despite the injury. However, subsequent testing revealed that the finger would require surgery, costing Wentz 4-6 weeks. The Commanders will turn to last year’s starter, Taylor Heinicke. They could also look to late-round pick Sam Howell in the interim. This could lead to a sticky situation for the Commanders. There is a conditional pick tied up in Wentz’s playing time. It’s fair to wonder how motivated Washington will be to keep Wentz in the lineup if they fall out of the playoff race. Keep an eye out for further news on Wentz as the week progresses. Heinicke should provide low-end QB2 numbers with the improved Commanders’ weaponry.

Brate banged up by the bay

Tampa Bay tight end Cameron Brate suffered a scary head/neck injury in his team’s Week 6 loss. The former Harvard graduate had to be back boarded and removed from the field on a stretcher. Head coach Todd Bowles has insisted the injury is not a concussion but a neck injury. With all that is happening in the league, it is hard to imagine Brate being cleared ahead of Week 7. This would leave Brady and the Buccaneers with rookie Cade Otton and Kyle Rudolph as their top options. Otton is an interesting stash in dynasty leagues. He can potentially develop into a long-term play in the Tampa offense.

Is it Taysom time?

New Orleans tight end Adam Trautman suffered an ankle injury in his team’s Week 6 contest. This was a strange situation, as Trautman went down without being touched on the play prior to the snap. He briefly exited the game before coming back. He then quickly exited a second time and remained out. Trautman has failed to live up to his early career hype. This despite having ample opportunities to make an impact in the Saint’s passing attack. If forced to miss time, the Saints will turn to their Swiss Army Knife Taysom Hill and Juwan Johnson. They would fill the tight end role until Adam can return. With the disappointing tight end landscape across fantasy, any additional usage for Hill may make him an every-week play.

Panthers in a pickle at QB

Carolina quarterback PJ Walker sustained a neck injury. Already down Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold, the Panthers are quickly running out of healthy bodies. Former 4th-round pick Jacob Eason was forced to finish the game. With head coach Matt Rhule already being fired and offensive players being shopped and traded, this is a situation to avoid. It is anybody’s guess if Walker or Eason will play next week. Walker indicated he would be healthy enough but looked completely ineffective in Week 6. Baker Mayfield was also reportedly spotted without a walking boot. He could also potentially be back early. Keep an eye out for news on the situation.

Is the door opening for Dillon?

Green Bay running back Aaron Jones suffered a leg injury in his team’s Week 6 loss. The former UTEP star has been enduring a difficult season with the rest of the Packer’s offense in 2022. The team is struggling to find an identity following the departure of All-Pro receiver Davante Adams in the offseason. There has been no news about the severity of the injury to date. If Jones does miss time, it will make fellow running back AJ Dillon a must-start. The Packers would likely morph into a run-first team. Jones has made waves in recent weeks by questioning his touches in the media. Keep an eye out for news about Jones’ practice reps as the week progresses.

Green Bay wide receiver Randall Cobb suffered an ankle injury in his team’s Week 6 loss. Sources close to the situation have indicated this will be a multi-week absence type of injury. This is bad news for Aaron Rodgers, as the reigning MVP has been heavily targeting Cobb in recent weeks. He even openly advocated for additional playing time for his veteran friend. In his absence, the Packers will be forced to lean heavily on Allen Lazard and youngsters Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, and Amari Rodgers. Veteran Sammy Watkins is also eligible to return from IR at any point. Tight end Robert Tonyan will also continue to see a heavy target volume as the Packers sort out their pass-catching unit in the coming weeks.

NFC West

Who’s in for Hollywood?

Arizona wide receiver Marquise Brown suffered a serious foot injury in his team’s Week 6 loss. The former Oklahoma star has been enjoying a nice start to the 2022 season. Team sources have confirmed that the injury is a fracture to his foot that will not require surgery. He will miss around six weeks with the injury. Fortunately for Arizona, they have reinforcements on the way. All-Pro receiver DeAndre Hopkins returns from suspension this week. The team also has former second-round pick Rondale Moore and newly acquired speedster Robbie Anderson to go along with veteran AJ Green. Now is a good time to send out offers for Brown. Despite the injury, his long-term future looks bright with Murray in Arizona.
