Week One has come and gone. We must focus on the top takeaways now that we have film and statistics to study. No longer can we rest on our offseason takes of who will succeed and who will fail. We now have an entire week of NFL football to study. The fantasy season will move quickly, and in a dynasty, it is essential to acquire players before they break out or unload players before they falter. We can lead our team to a fantasy football title by focusing on the top takeaways each week!
Kyle Phillips Camp Hype Justified
All summer as Treylon Burks struggled in training camp, the reports were glowing about fifth-round selection Phillips. Many wrote it off as another training camp hype piece that wouldn’t lead to much. Well, this past Sunday it led to a team-high nine targets that were converted into 66 yards. It may be the Phillips and Burks show going forward. Veteran free agent Robert Woods commanded only two targets.
Follow The Money
A large storyline early in the 2022 offseason was the huge contract that the Jacksonville Jaguars gave to then free-agent Kirk. The four-year $72 million contract only includes $37 million in guarantees, but that first number was big enough to get people talking. This contract might have been the reason we see players like Tyreek Hill, Davante Adams, and AJ Brown on new teams this season. Regardless of your thoughts on the contract, you must follow the money when looking for targets in new offenses. Kirk had the team lead with 12 targets and you can clearly see that they paid him for a reason. Christian Kirk will see a large role in this offense all season long and can be relied on as a WR2 all year. Get him if he is still undervalued in your dynasty leagues.
OJ Howard Sell High
Howard was signed by the Houston Texans less than two weeks ago. He is currently sitting as the TE2 on the season in some scoring formats. Despite being the TE2 he only ran six routes this week and had two targets. Both those targets just so happened to be converted into touchdowns. Chasing touchdowns is not the correct way to win fantasy football, especially dynasty. If you can get anything from your league-mates for OJ Howard you should take it and run.
Michael Pittman Jr. Top Ten Finish
Pittman quickly ran away with this Colts offense commanding a 26% target share in Week One. This led to a top-five fantasy finish for the week and that may be the spot we become used to seeing him in. You would hope that the offense will gel better the more Matt Ryan gets accustomed to it. This means the sky is the limit for Pittman in 2022. If there is any chance of getting yourself a piece on your dynasty teams, this may be the last week to do it.
Information is the most powerful tool any dynasty fantasy football manager possesses. If you can stay on top of the correct information and takeaways more than your league mates, you will come out on top.
